Thomas Tuchel has reacted to the FA penalty after a dugout row with Antonio Conte on Premier League Matchday 2. Tuchel stated that he is not surprised by FA’s differing punishment for him and Antonio Conte but expects an explanation.
Also, it was not a good day for the former Borussia Dortmund manager as he suffered a massive loss to Leeds at Elland Road to mark his 60th Premier League match with the Blues.
Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea have been slammed with fines by the English FA after both managers squared up against each other at Stamford bridge. Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte turned an end-of-match camaraderie handshake into a heated brawl after a dramatic 2-2 draw between the two rivals.
After an investigation into the incident, the English FA condemned the incident and slammed both managers with different sums of money as fines. Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel bagged an additional touchline ban after a heavy £35,000 fine. The German tactician and former Borussia Dortmund coach has to watch Leeds vs. Chelsea from the bench. Antonio Conte has also been fined £15,000 but no touchline ban.
The two managers were red-carded by Anthony Taylor, the center referee in charge of the Chelsea vs. Tottenham match. Still, the English FA has canvassed for different weights of punishments, with Thomas Tuchel receiving a more severe punishment than Antonio Conte.
Reacting to the development, Thomas Tuchel said that he is expecting an explanation why he has been suspended from the touchline while Antonio Conte has not been suspended.
Antonio Conte was live at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when the Lilywhwites hosted Wolves. Conte had to take to the bench when Chelsea slogged it out with Leeds in their Matchday 3 Premier League fixture.
Speaking in a pre-match conference, Tuchel said ‘he is not surprised by the FA’s decision but that there was ‘no explanation yet’ for the decision. Recall that the FA had stated that Tuchel’s touchline ban will not take effect until the football organizing body communicate to the German how the decision was reached.
”We wait for the explanation for the punishment and if it is accepted then I’ll be out of the coaching but let’s wait for an explanation. We both got a red card and seems like Antonio Conte has no ban so let’s see why,” Tuchel said.
A Heavy Loss At Elland Road On 60th Premier League Match
Tuchel suffered a heavy defeat to a spirited Leeds at Elland Road. The Blues were humbled 3-0; their first season’s defeat. Goals from Aaronson, Rodrigo, and Harrison did ensure that Tuchel’s 60th game in charge of the Blues ended in a debacle.
A loss to Leeds has twisted the stats for Tuchel. In his 60 matches with the Blues, Thomas Tuchel has conceded twice as many goals (34) in his last 30 matches than he does in his first 30 matches (17). This has caused a lot of concern among Chelsea fans.
