The manager of Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel said he and the club did not like Romelu Lukaku’s public criticism against his formation, adding that the criticism was not helpful.

Recall that Chelsea decided to spend a club-record £97.5 million to bring Romelu Lukaku to the club from Inter Milan last summer. The aim of signing the Belgian football star was because the club needed a more proven striker.

This is the second time Lukaku joined Chelsea. Recall that the 28-year-old Belgian football star played for Chelsea between 2011 and 2014 before he joined Everton when he could not establish himself at Stamford Bridge.

After about three seasons at Everton, he decided to join Manchester United and had a fair spell at the club before he had a fallout with the then coach of the club, Ole Gunnar Solskjær.

Due to the fallout with the coach, he had to leave for Inter Milan in 2019 where he enjoyed a tremendous form and helped the club to win the Italian Serie A title at the end of the 2020-2021 season.

His form at Inter Milan forced Chelsea to pay a record transfer fee to Inter. After Lukaku arrived at Chelsea, he described his return to the club as a dream come through.

Immediately he arrived at the club, he hit the ground running by scoring in over four consecutive games before he suffered a drop in form, and then injury and coronavirus infection set in.

During that period, he had an interview with Sky in Italy via which he apologized to the fans of Inter Milan for leaving the club and added that he would return to the club soon.

Lukaku went as far as criticizing the formation of coach Thomas Tuchel and the “situation” at the Premier League club.

Recall that Chelsea that started the season as Premier League title contenders are now 8 points away from first-placed Manchester City after three draws within a month.

Ahead of the Chelsea league game against Liverpool which will kick off at 17:30 on January 2, coach Thomas Tuchel was asked to react to Lukaku’s criticism, and the German tactician made it clear that he did not like it.

According to the coach, Lukaku who scored two goals in the club’s last two league games did not complain to him before he decided to go public with his criticism.

Thomas Tuchel said: “I don’t like it because it brings noise that we don’t need. It’s just not helpful.

“On the other side, we don’t want to make more out of it than it actually is. You know very well how it is – it’s very easy to take lines out of context. It’s very easy to shorten lines and make headlines, then later realize that it’s not so bad and maybe not what he meant.

“But let’s be honest that we don’t like it…

“I don’t feel him unhappy. I feel him the exact opposite, that’s why it’s a surprise. But I’m the wrong person to ask.”

Since Romelu Lukaku returned to Chelsea on August 12, 2021, he has managed to score 7 goals and provided 2 assists in 18 games in all competitions for Chelsea.
