Mamadou Sakho, who is a defender for Club Crystal Palace, had his home broken into by thieves who got away with a lump some of goods. The thieves broke into his London home and raided it of £500,000 worth of goods. Luckily, for the defender, he and his family were not home at the time of the incident as it could have gone far worse. The Palace defender rents the property from former Premier League superstar Nicolas Anelka. Anelka, what’s in a similar situation a few years ago as he was almost robbed  when living at the house six years ago.

The former Liverpool star lives at the multi-million pound lodging in Wimbledon with his wife and their three children. Police are now investigating the burglary, in what is the latest incident of its kind in the south London area.

“Everything is OK,” Sakho told media outlets.

“Me and my wife, we’re OK.”

The burglary reportedly took place on December 27, after thieves broke in to the gated property around 1:30pm, but was not reported to police until around 9pm that evening.

Sakho, 29, was away at the time ahead of Palace’s fixture with Southampton the following day, while his wife Majda, 34, was also away with their children for Christmas.

Police are yet to release full details of what was taken from Sakho’s home, but the Standard estimate the goods to be worth around half a million. Officers have released an image of a woman believed to have been near the scene around the time of the robbery.

Pc Dean Shaw, who is leading the investigation, said: “It is believed that two male suspects carried out this burglary but we would like to speak to the woman pictured as she was seen near the address on the day of the incident and may be able to assist us.”

Marcus Wareing, star of TV show Masterchef – also fell foul to robbers when his £7million mansion was ransacked by a Chilean gang, who stole items including Rolex watches and Louboutin shoes. Four men were jailed as a result of the raid on Wareing’s home, but police are concerned the burglary follows a pattern by South American’s who are flown into the country for days at a time by an organised crime network.

Whether this is the case for Sakho’s home is unclear, as Anelka chased off the ‘Wimbledon Prowler’ Asdrit Kapaj back in 2014.
