Claire Merry, the ex-wife of Thierry Henry was a victim of fraudster Medi Abalimba who she dated years after she ended her marriage with the Arsenal legend.
Unlike Thierry Henry who is a well-celebrated footballer in France, at Arsenal and FC Barcelona, Medi Abalimba could not make much of his football career despite once being on the books of Liverpool and Derby County.
Hence, he looked for other means to earn a living for himself. One of the means he decided to venture into was to make Thierry Henry’s ex-wife Claire Merry fall in love with him.
Abalimba who is 32-year-old made Thierry Henry’s ex-wife pay for him to stay in a luxurious five-star hotel and dentistry work. He won the trust of the 41-year-old British model after telling her that he was a navy seal.
During one of the court’s hearings, the court confirmed that Abalimba pretended to be an American named Miguel Johnson. The ex-footballer had to use a fake American accent throughout his time with Thierry Henry’s ex-wife.
Claire Merry met with the fraudster at a private party in 2019. They started dating without any background check on him.
Little did she know that the ex-footballer had just returned from prison for defrauding his ex-girlfriend, Georgia Steel, a star of a reality TV show Love Island in 2018.
While the court was looking at the case Thierry Henry’s ex-wife brought to the court, it was discovered that Abalimba had also defrauded record label manager Simon Belofsky and two unsuspecting chauffeurs.
The total amount of money the ex-footballer got from his victims is said to be more than £170,000 between January 2021 and March 2021.
At the time of publishing this report, the length of his prison sentence has not been made public.
