Thierry Henry and Carragher believes after getting “enough opportunities” at the Stamford Bridge, Christian Pulisic is not talented enough to start for Chelsea.

The international player from the United States joined the Blues from Borussia Dortmund in January 2019 before going back to finish the season on loan at Signal Iduna Park.

In his debut season with the team, Pulisic may have had his best stretch wearing a Chelsea jersey, scoring nine goals and dishing out four assists in 25 Premier League games.

But despite being used sparingly by both Frank Lampard and the recently-sacked Thomas Tuchel, he has struggled with injuries and a lack of consistency.

This season, Pulisic has made only one start in all competitions, coming off the bench for 15 minutes in Tuesday’s 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb.

Clint Dempsey, a former USA international, is defending Pulisic, but Carragher wonders if he is good enough to be a regular for Chelsea in the future.

What Did Thierry Henry and Carragher Say?

Henry, a former Arsenal player, said that: “At some time, you have to come through. It’s also about you and the contributions you can make.

“You can be the best chef in the world and if the guy doesn’t put anything on the table, what are you going to cook?

“It’s always about the coach, it’s always about help him, help that. Can you bring something to the table for me to cook? Can he be about himself? Free yourself, whether you stay or you leave, can you perform? That’s about it.

“It’s one thing to play in transition, remember? Playing in transition, Dortmund, pressing, gegenpressing, or whatever and when a team waits for you, and you have to unlock stuff, it’s a different ballgame.

“Now I don’t think he’s a bad player, I’m just saying at what point can it come from you? At what point can he free himself?”

While former Liverpool defender Carragher commented on CBS Sports: “Do you think he’s not playing because of Thomas Tuchel or himself?

“I don’t think he’s good enough to play for Chelsea. I think he’s been there for a few years now. I think he’s had enough opportunities.

“I don’t think a new manager is going to completely rejuvenate him or he’s going to play week in, week out now Tuchel’s gone. I just think he’s a squad player for Chelsea no matter who the manager is.

“To play week in, week out and make a difference for one of the best teams in the world, he’s not good enough for that right now.

“I’ve said before, I think he’s got great ability. Some of those things I’ve seen him do for Chelsea, the goals he’s scored. But it’s not consistent enough and he gets injured quite a lot.

“I just don’t ever see him displacing a Mason Mount or a Kai Havertz or players in those positions – Raheem Sterling is there now, [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang. I just don’t see it.”

Henry concurred with Carragher and informed Pulisic that if he wanted a regular spot in the starting XI, he would eventually have to “deliver” for Chelsea.

Christian Pulisic

Christian Mate Pulisic, an attacking midfielder or winger for Premier League side Chelsea and the American national team, was born in the United States on September 18, 1998.

Fans and other players have given him the moniker “Captain America” due to his exceptional level of play and ethnicity.

Mate Pulii, the great-grandfather of Pulisic, was born on the Croatian island of Olib. After relocating to Germany, Pulisic acquired Croatian citizenship in order to avoid applying for a German work visa, which is necessary to work there without a European Union passport.

Will Pulisic, a relative of Pulisic, is a USL League One player on loan from Austin FC’s North Carolina FC.
