It was a big moment for Thiago Silva as he sets out for a new chapter with Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A club Fluminense.

Silva left Chelsea this summer after his four-year contract with the club expired. He was reportedly offered a new contract by the Blues but turned it down to head homewards to Fluminense, his former club.

The 39-year-old Rio de Janeiro-born center-back was welcomed back to Fluminense with open arms. His official unveiling by the club was the most attended football event in Brazil.

As captured by Sportsbible, about 55,000 Fluminense and Brazil football fans turned out to witness the epic event. The number is said to be the highest number of attendants ever recorded in a football event in the country.

This buttresses the popularity and the widespread acceptance of the return of the Brazil football superstar. Silva is one of the most capped Brazil internationals, having made 113 appearances for the Selecao, scoring 7 goals since he made his debut in 2008.

After over a decade with the national team, the Chelsea and PSG legend called time in his international career in 2022. He won FIFA Confederations Cup 2013 and Copa America 2019 with the Selecao.

The former AC Milan defender has been football fans favorite both in and outside Brazil due to his impressive work rate on the field in club and international football.

His return elated the Brazil fans as one of the country’s footballing icons took a detour back home after a heroic career across top clubs in top leagues in Europe.

Silva’s return to Fluminense will see the 39-year-old reunite with another Brazil footballing legend and former Real Madrid star Marcelo, who is also plying his trade with Fluminense.

In the footage shared below, Marcelo was on hand to receive Thiago Silva. The pair were seen sharing a warm hug in Fluminense dressing room during the event.
