There are strong indications that Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane and Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho would have to wait for probably another transfer window beyond this summer to make their big-money moves.

The two super footballers and England internationals are linked with a move to Manchester United this summer for huge sum of transfer fees.

Borussia Dortmund has placed a whopping £100 million price tag on 20-year-old Jadon Sancho and Manchester United is the most likely club the footballer might move to, all things being equal.

Also, 26-year-old Harry Kane is likely to leave Tottenham Hotspur to a club where he can win laurels and his likely destination is Manchester United. The price tag on him is reportedly around £200 million.

As good as these two players are, the coronavirus pandemic which has halted football across Europe might not give them the opportunity to earn such crazy transfer fees this summer.

This has even been made obvious by a statement credited to the vice chief executive of Manchester United Ed Woodward who said the crisis the COVID-19 pandemic brought on Manchester United has made it almost impossible for such big-money moves to happen this summer.

“Nobody should be under any illusions about the scale of the challenge facing everyone in football,” Woodward told a United fans’ forum via conference call.

“It may not be ‘business as usual’ for any clubs, including ourselves, in the transfer market this summer.

“As ever, our priority is the success of the team, but we need visibility of the impact across the whole industry, including timings of the transfer window, and the wider financial picture, before we can talk about a return to normality.

“On this basis, I cannot help feeling that speculation around transfers of individual players for hundreds of millions of pounds this summer seems to ignore the realities that face the sport.”

The submission of Ed Woodward on big-money moves this summer could be a general view of other big clubs. Since the coronavirus pandemic halted football, all the big clubs across Europe have been looking for alternative means of staying afloat. Some have even gone as far as cutting the wages of their playing staff and placed some of their non-playing staff on unpaid leave.

So, it could be extremely difficult to see a club that will pay 100s of million pounds on a footballer when they can go for cheaper players around.
