The future is all about winning trophies, says United captain.
Man United captain Harry Maguire has revealed that “a top-four finish” is the minimum expectation now for the Red devil with his teammates ready to challenge for silverware.
The Red Devils ended the season in third place after defeating his former club Leicester 2-0 on the last day of the season to secure a Champions League spot.
However, the team still stands a chance to end the season on a high note as they are still in contention for the UEFA Europa League cup.
The club captain while speaking to the club’s media MUTV
“That’s why I joined this club. I joined this club to play Champions League football. At the start of the season, not many many people fancied us. Now we are third in the league everyone is going to go ‘well, it’s expected for Manchester United.’ But at the start of the season, no one fancied us to reach the top four, but we’ve worked hard, we’ve improved, and I think that’s the main thing this season.”
“What you see is proper Manchester United team where we’re not happy to just fight for top four, that’s not us. We ‘re realists, and we know we’re not going to jump the points that we finished last season to win the Premier League. It’s not impossible, you’ve seen Leicester do it, but it’s hard. We set a target of the top four as a minimum requirement, we had great belief that we would get there.
We left it late, but we’ve got there in the end. It’s not what we want in the future. The future is all about winning trophy and winning Premier Leagues. The main thing this season, and it been enormous.”
United face LASK in their round of 16 Europa League fixture, with United already 5-0 clear on aggregate they are confident of advancing to the next round.
