Possibly SACK day is PAY day?… Some managers in Europe have smiled home with massive paychecks even though they were let go from their means of livelihood.

Coaching in football is an hiring and firing job which implies that coaches would continue to get the stick when they don’t meet up to the standards or expectations of the club.

There is a shocking football club that makes an appearance in this list many times due to their previous management style of letting go of coaches with reckless abandon.

Some of these managers achieve relative level of successes at those clubs before they were fired but situations led to them not being in the good books of several of these club’s hierarchy.

Futballnews would be filling you in on the biggest pay-offs from clubs for sacked managers below,

    • 10) Andre Villas-Boas – Chelsea (£12m)

The Blues forked out a staggering amount to secure the services of Villas-Boas from FC Porto in 2011 and they also had to spend massively to fire him.

The Portuguese was in charge of Chelsea for less than 13 months but his team did win the UEFA Champions League that campaign under another coach, Italian Roberto Di Matteo.

    9) Mauricio Pochettino – Tottenham Hotspur (£12.5m)

Tottenham Hotspur extended the contract of the Argentine for five years due to how magnificent he handled the side but after only 18 months into that contract they had to splash out (£12.5m) as severance payment.

There are a notable number of Premier League clubs on this list but it wasn’t a little amount Russia had to doll out to get Capello away as manager of the country.

Fabio Capello was appointed in 2014 but he lasted just a year and six months as manager of the European nation.

    • 6) Luiz Felipe Scolari – Chelsea (£13.6m)

Another name still affiliated to Chelsea, Under the ownership of Roman Abramovic at Chelsea he had a policy of booting out underperforming managers quickly without second thoughts.

Abramovic sacked Felipe Scolari in February of the Brazilian’s first campaign in charge of the West London side.

    • 5) Jose Mourinho – Tottenham Hotspur (£16m)

Jose Mourinho was fired by the hierarchy of Tottenham Hotspur after just 17 months in charge of the club and he smiled to the bank with an outrageous £16 million despite the circumstances.

Arguably PSG’s best manager in their less than a hundred years history, he won three Ligue 1 titles but he was fired due to his inability to engineer success for the club in Europe, an achievement that they haven’t hit yet.

    • 3) Jose Mourinho – Chelsea (£18m)

This is the second time he is appearing on this list and this time was in 2007, he was fired by Chelsea for not being able to deliver probably a third back-to-back League success or a European title.

    • 2) Jose Mourinho – Manchester United (£19.6m)

The chosen one as he fondly calls himself was appointed as manager of Manchester United in 2016 with the partnership looking like the right match.

However, after winning the UEFA Europa League and the Carabao Cup in his first season in charge of the club, he was fired in December 2018 following lots of internal squabble the Portuguese was embroiled in.

    • 1) Antonio Conte – Chelsea (£26.6m)

The Italian is the one at the pinnacle of this list after he pocketed home a massive £26.6 million when he was sacked by Chelsea in July 2018.

Conte won the English Premier League in his first season as manager of the club and he followed it up with an FA Cup title in his second campaign as manager of the blues but the relationship turned sour between both parties due to a change in fortunes on the pitch.
