New York City FC defender Tayvon Gray has been suspended for an unspecified period of time due to allegations that the 20-year-old used “language that violates league policy” in his side’s last encounter against FC Cincinnati.

The MLS established that Tayvon Gray made use of unscrupulous remarks on the 31st of May, resulting to an wholesome investigation into the issue.

During the time the matter was under review, the player cannot play for the Eastern conference club.

It is not the first time this campaign that a player would be suspended for using derogatory language.

Major League Soccer handed a six-game ban and fine to New York Red Bulls forward Dante Vanzeir for using racist language during the regular-season clash on the 8th of April 2023.

The occurrence happened in the 54th minute of the game when the forward made racist statements to Jeremy Ebobisse.

Jeremy Ebobisse, the man who plays for San Jose Earthquakes as a striker established later that the comments were not directed at him.

However, he refused to mention what the remarks Dante Vanzeir was based on.

It is uncertain what punishment would be meted out to Tayvon Gray after the investigation.

But for the New York Red Bulls attacker Dante, he has been prohibited from playing in any US Open Cup, MLS NEXT Pro matches and exhibition games till the suspension is over.

He would also go through an additional League-mandated training and education sessions “as well as a restorative practices program.”

The League announced in a statement steps they are putting in place to curb these acts: “MLS is working with both clubs and the MLS Players Association to provide impacted players and staff with support and resources, and is committed to continuing to review and improve its in-game protocol”

These punishments would most likely be meted out to Tayvon Gray if he is found culpable to have used similar language during the game against Cincinnati.
