Former Chelsea striker, Tammy Abraham said the achievements and ambition of Jose Mourinho influenced him to join Italian Serie A side, Roma.

Tammy Abraham tried to establish himself at Chelsea football club since he gained promotion to Chelsea’s senior team on May 31, 2019, but was not convincing enough for the handlers of the team.

He was able to do well under coach Frank Lampard especially during the 2019-2020 season. Tammy Abraham helped Chelsea to qualify for the 2020-2021 UEFA Champions League campaign by scoring a total of 18 goals and providing 6 assists in 47 games.

Abraham thrived to an extent under Lampard in the first part of the 2020-2021 season before the coach was sacked in the second part of the season due to a poor run of games.

When Chelsea appointed coach Thomas Tuchel, Tammy Abraham had lesser game time under the German tactician which prompted him to start considering how to exit the club.

The English striker managed to finish the 2020-2021 season with Chelsea and won the UEFA Champions League with the club for the first time in his career.

It became clear that Tammy Abraham did not have a future at Chelsea when the club decided to buy another striker, Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan. Hence, he had to agree to join Roma ahead of the 2021-2022 season.

Abraham signed a five-year deal with Roma earlier in August which means that he has to stay at the Italian club until June 30, 2026.

In the deal he signed with Roma, Chelsea inserted a buy-back clause worth £68 million. This means that whenever Chelsea are interested in his service again, between now and 2026, they would have to pay Roma £68 million.

Since Abraham joined Roma, he has played two games for the Italian club in which he provided two assists.

When asked how he decided to leave Chelsea for Roma, Abraham said: “I spoke to Jose and obviously (general manager) Thiago (Pinto) before coming here and they told me the ambition of the club.

“They told me what they want from the club and how they see the club moving forward. I am very ambitious myself so when I see the vision and I believe in the vision and I believe I can help in the vision I give my all.

“Of course, Jose the manager is very successful, he is very ambitious, very passionate and that is what I love.

“I am the same, but he is a manager, and I am a player. It is nice to have someone that high a caliber to be the manager of such a great team…

“I would like to say it is not just because of Jose that I am here.

“Of course, he has a big impact on why I am here. Growing up I used to watch Roma on the TV in the Champions League, so I have known about Roma for a very long time.

“I had the pleasure of playing with guys like Toni Rudiger and Emerson who have been at this club as well. Rudiger has told me so many good things about Roma and so that was another impact on my decision [to come] here.”

Over the years, the argument has been that the Premier League is the best in the world. But others are of a contrary opinion.

Ahead of the Roma league game against Salernitana scheduled to kick off at 19:46, on Sunday, August 29, 2021, Tammy Abraham said the Serie A is very tactical which is believed to be the edge Serie A has over the Premier League.

“I always knew Italians were very tactical,” he said. “They defend well as a team, they have a good structure when they play. It is always tough to break them down and to score past the Italians.

“One thing I have learned coming here is every team is very good. Compared to the Premier League where if you are at a good team you have the ball a lot, you dominate the smaller teams but here everyone is equal.

“Everyone likes to keep the ball, everyone likes to have a compact shape and it is hard to break teams down. You have to find ways to break teams down and that is the difference between Italian football and English football.”

Premier League club, Manchester City, have unveiled the statuses of the club’s legends, Vincent Kompany and David Silva.

The two players were the foundation of the new generation of Manchester City. Kompany spent 11 seasons at Manchester City and helped the club to win their first Premier League title during the 2011-2012 season.

More so, Kompany and Silva were part of the Manchester City team that won the 2013-14, 2017-18, and 2018-19 Premier League titles. They were also in the City team that won the club’s last two FA Cup titles.

“I didn’t really expect to be recognized by such a great club in that way,” Kompany told the club’s website.

“My wife is from Manchester, my kids are born in Manchester, and they go back to a place where they can see something that represents what their dad has achieved and that is something that I can’t describe.

“The first time I saw the statue I couldn’t believe how big it was, but then again, I’m a big boy, so fair enough! And then especially the pose, for me it means a lot.”

“When I first saw the statue, I felt good, I thought it was like me. This statue really represents the way I like to play, I love the pose the sculptor has chosen.

“It really reminds me of those times I was on the pitch playing and that moment when I had to find the striker.”

At the time of publishing this report, Manchester City have started the construction of a third statue which is for the club’s record goalscorer, Sergio Aguero.
