Strict Rule In Heung-Min Son’s Contract Prevents Him From Taking Selfie With Fans

South Korean forward Heung-Min Son couldn’t take a selfie with a fan as a result of strict rule in his contract.

Son is currently engaged in International duty with South Korea and he kept sometime out of his busy schedule to interact with his teeming fans.

The 31-year-old played the entire duration of his national team’s 0-0 draw with Wales on Thursday, September 7, 2023.

The encounter was played at the Cardiff City Stadium, and it featured several Premier League stars.

South Korea continue to put needed things in place ahead of the game against Saudi Arabia, and ahead of the game, Son was seen taking pictures with fans.

However, there was something notable that caught the attention of many, and it was his unwillingness to hold fans apart from Samsung to take selfies.

One supporter, who went over to the Tottenham Hotspur attacker for a picture couldn’t get her desires granted, except she uses the phone to personally take the selfie.

Whilst folding his hands, Son apologized to the fan, and the reasons for his actions weren’t far-fetched, as it due to a sponsorship deal with Samsung.

Samsung unveiled the 31-year-old as their brand ambassador in July 2023, and he was cautious to avoid his contract being ripped off.

Son Heung-Min understands what being a brand ambassador entails, having partnered with several top brand, including; Calvin Klein and TUMI.

Son learns from Ronaldinho’s issue with Coca-cola

Son wants to keep the good bond existing between him and his new sponsors, as he is looking to avoid his deal being terminated like Ronaldinho in 2012.

In 2012, Ronaldinho Gaucho was sponsored by Coca-Cola and he was earning £500,000 yearly off that deal, according to reports.

The deal was expected to expire in 2014, unfortunately, during a presser, he was seen sitting closely to two cans of Coca-cola.

The Brazilian great was also seen taking a sip from one of the Pepsi cans, and that was the last straw that broke the camel’s back.

Following the incident, the marketing chief of Coca-cola told Brazilian media outlet, O Estado de Sao Paulo, “that the player has appeared with a can of Pepsi was the straw that broke the camel’s back.”

The sweetened carbonated beverage drink company also released a statement revealing their decision to discontinue their partnership with Ronaldinho.

Coca-cola wrote: “Coca-Cola recognises the career and value of Ronaldinho. However due to recent developments it has become impossible to continue the partnership.”

Meanwhile, Heung-Min Son returns to Premier League action with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, September 16, 2023.

Spurs have had a great start to the season, and they are yet to taste defeat after four matches in the 2023/24 league season.

Ange Postecoglou’s side commenced the season with a 2-2 draw with Brentford, before defeating Manchester United by 2-0 on Matchday 2.

They subsequently dispatched Bournemouth by 2-0, and Burnley by 5-2 in the Premier League.

Son Heung-Min has been impressive for the team so far, scoring 3 goals and providing no assists across all competitions this season.
