Rangers manager, Steven Gerrard is interested in leaving the Scottish club for relegation-threatened Premier League club, Aston Villa, according to reports.

Aston Villa that are currently without a permanent coach after they sacked Dean Smith last weekend due to a poor run of games are interested in bringing in a big personality to coach the club.

It is believed that Steven Gerrard who is a Liverpool football legend is a perfect fit for the kind of coach Aston Villa’s board currently wants.

Recall that Gerrard took Scottish Premiership by storm when he led Rangers to stop the dominance of Celtic last season. Since he won the league title with Rangers a few months ago, he has been linked with almost all the Premier League clubs that have sacked their coaches this season.

A report by Telegraph and also a report by Sky Sports confirmed that Steven Gerrard is open to joining Aston Villa. The Premier League club is expected to make an official offer to Rangers today and the deal might be sealed within 48 hours.

    Steven Gerrard.

Aston Villa are trying, by all means, to get a permanent replacement for coach Dean Smith before the end of the FIFA international break. Though there are a couple of coaches that the club is currently considering for the job, Gerrard is seen as the favorite for it.

The former England international has helped Rangers to top the Scottish Premiership table already with 30 points in 13 games, four points above second-placed Celtic.

It will be interesting to see whether Steven Gerrard would leave a club that is currently topping the table of a league for Aston Villa that are currently struggling to survive in the Premier League.

So far this season, Aston Villa have managed to win 3 games, record one draw, and record 7 defeats in 11 league games. Their abysmal performance has forced them to the 16th spot with 10 points in 11 games, just 2 points away from the relegation zone.

However, if all the reports especially in British media are anything to go by, the English tactician might choose the pressure of managing a Premier League club over the relative comfort he is currently enjoying in Scotland.

But before Gerrard can leave Rangers for Aston Villa this season, the Premier League club must pay the Scottish side about £3 million as compensation because the coach still has almost two seasons left on his contract with Rangers.

If the deal scale through before the weekend, Gerrard’s first Premier League game in charge of Aston Villa would be against Brighton. The league game will kick off at 16:00 on November 20.
