Steve Bruce is no longer the football manager of Newcastle United. The two parties decided to part ways on mutual consent earlier today, October 20, 2021.

Steve Bruce and Newcastle United ended their relationship 13 days after a Saudi Arabia-backed consortium paid the sum of £305 million to buy the club.

Immediately after the Premier League announced that the deal has been completed, most supporters of Newcastle United began to call for the sack of coach Bruce. They believe that the 60-year-old English tactician is not good enough to lead the club which is now owned by a group worth £320 billion.

Steve Bruce has been the coach of Newcastle United since 2019. He has been able to keep the club in the Premier League for the past two seasons.

Before the Saudi Arabia-backed consortium took over the club this season, Bruce led Newcastle United to record three draws and four defeats in the Premier League. After the takeover, he led Newcastle United to play against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, October 17, 2021.

Unfortunately for the English tactician, Tottenham Hotspur defeated Newcastle United 3-2 at St James’ Park. The defeat pushed Newcastle to the 19th spot on the league table with just three points in 8 games.

Based on this performance, it was clear to the critics of the coach that he didn’t have what it takes to take the club to the next level, especially under the new owners. Hence, the coach who has been in charge of 1,000 games in his managerial career has to make way for the new era.

In his statement after Newcastle United ended his reign at the club, Steve Bruce appreciated those associated with the club and those who he worked with while in charge of the team.

“I am grateful to everyone connected with Newcastle United for the opportunity to manage this unique football club,” said Bruce.

“I would like to thank my coaching team, the players, and the support staff in particular for all their hard work.

“There have been highs and lows, but they have given everything even in difficult moments and should be proud of their efforts.

“This is a club with incredible support and I hope the new owners can take it forward to where we all want it to be. I wish everyone the very best of luck for the rest of this season and beyond.”

Steve Bruce was called a “fat waste of space” at Newcastle United

In an interview with Luke Edwards of Daily and Weekly Telegraph, Steve Bruce said he was called “a fat waste of space” at Newcastle United after the Saudi Arabia-backed consortium took over the club.

He revealed other humiliating names he was called at the club and confirmed that he might not coach again.

Steve Bruce said: “I think it might be my last job. It has been very, very tough. To never really be wanted, to feel that people wanted me to fail & saying I would fail, that I was useless, a fat waste of space, a tactically inept cabbage head”.

Now that coach Bruce has exited the Premier League side, the search for his replacement would become the priority of the club.

Since the Saudi Arabia-backed consortium took over the club, the names of many coaches have been mentioned as Bruce’s possible replacement. Top on the list includes former coach of Inter Milan, Antonio Conte, former coach of Chelsea, Frank Lampard, and the current coach of Leicester City, Brendan Rodgers.

As it stands, it is a matter of time before the world would see who the club would settle for before the club’s league game against Crystal Palace on Saturday, October 23, 2021.

Meanwhile, one of the football stars at Newcastle United, Allan Saint-Maximin has taken to Twitter to praise coach Bruce. He described him as “one of the most gentle people” he has ever met in the world of football.

Saint-Maximin wrote: “You are, without a doubt, one of the most gentle people that I have ever met in the world of football. You have been a man of your word, a caring man and a fair man who never hesitated to protect us. I will never forget how you treated me, for that I will be forever grateful”.
