Wife of Pablo Mari, Veronica Chapin, reportedly witnessed a horrific death scene in front of her family in the Carrefour shopping mall stabbing which left six injured and one dead.
Arsenal and former Mallorca defender Pablo Mari was stabbed in the evening of Thursday, 27 October, 2022, in Carrefour near Milan.
His wife, Veronica Chapin, was reportedly left horrified after witnessing a man die during the scary attack in an Italian shopping centre
Pablo’s father, who spoke to her daughter-in-law, Veronica, revealed that the lady was left devastated after witnessing such a horrific death scene at the shopping center.
The attacker reportedly carried a knife from one of the shelves in the supermarket before other courageous shoppers, quickly moved to stop him.
All the six people, who attempted to stop him were severely wounded and airlifted to hospital and a store cashier died at the spot due to the injury sustained.
Arsenal defender Mari was one of six people attacked by the 46-year-old man in a Carrefour near Milan.
It has since been confirmed that Mari is not in serious condition, but the 29-year-old is due to undergo surgery on Friday after suffering a deep cut to his back.
The defender, who is currently on loan at Serie A outfit Monza, was shopping with his wife and four-year-old at the time of the attack.
Mari’s father told Spanish radio station Cadena Cope on Thursday night: “These have been very worrying hours for us. They started calling me at 8pm and my heart has skipped a beat.
“Veronica has not told us how it happened, but she has told us that she has seen a person die in front of her. She has reassured us confirming that they are fine and that everything has been a fright for them.”
According to a fresh report from Gazzetta Dello Sport, Mari was quoted to have told Monza’s CEO Adriano Galliani and the club’s manager Raffaele Palladino that the suspect stabbed a person in the throat.
Mari said: “I was with the trolley with my child inside and I felt an excruciating pain in my back. Then that man stabbed another in the throat. I had suerte [luck]. I saw a person die in front of me.”
Galliani also spoke about the incident, saying: “Pablo is an amazing guy. He had the strength to joke, telling me that he will be on the field on Monday. I brought him greetings from President Berlusconi and everyone. The comrades, who would have liked to come here even though, obviously, it was not possible.”
In another update, Galliani also confirmed that the person who sadly died during the attack was a cashier at the supermarket. Speaking to TG2, he said: “Unfortunately, I received terrible news, the store cashier died.
“As for Pablo Marì he had a fairly deep wound on his back, a penetrating one, which however did not touch vital organs such as lungs or others. His life is not in danger. He certainly has problems but he should recover quickly despite some injured muscles.”

Pablo Mari Villar, born on 31 August, 1993, in Almussafes, Spain, is a professional football player, who plays as a center back for Serie A club Monza on loan from Premier League club Arsenal.
Pablo Mari started his youth career at Mallorca.
He made his first senior team appearance for Mallorca B in 2010, going ahead to make 68 appearances for the club, and scoring 3 goals.
He joined Mallorca main team in 2011, making only 2 appearances.
After spells with Manchester City, Gimnastic, Girona, Nac Breda, Deportivo La Coruna, and Flamengo, Pablo joined Arsenal in 2020, making only 14 appearances for the Gunners before being loaned to Udinese and Monza in 2022.
He is yet to feature for Spain national team, and has won the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A and Copa Libertadores while at Flamengo.
Pablo Mari is married to Veronica Chapon and have a son Pablo Jr together.
On 27 October, 2022, a man with mental problems attacked Pablo Mari stabbing and injuring him and four others. One was reportedly killed on the spot.
Pablo Mari is currently receiving medical treatment and reports have confirmed he will recover soon.
