Sporting Kansas City have completed the signing of veteran center-back Joaquin Fernandez on a free transfer.
Fernandez becomes Sporting Kansas City’s 1st signing this summer and they confirmed the defender’s acquisition via a statement shared on the club’s website which read:
“Sporting Kansas City has signed 28-year-old Spanish center back Joaquin Fernandez, the club announced today.
“Joaquin has signed an MLS contract through 2025 and will occupy an international spot on Sporting’s roster.”
Joaquin Fernandez has signed a one-year deal with Sporting Kansas City as aforementioned, which runs until December 2025.
Fernandez last played for Turkish giants Trabzonspor and he joined the club on July 1, 2023, on a free transfer.
The 28-year-old made 17 appearances for Trabzonspor, scoring no goals and providing no assists in all competitions.
Sporting Kansas are hoping that the signing of Joaquin Fernandez, who has been handed the number 12 shirt, will help improve the fortunes of the franchise.
