A Spanish court has ordered Paris St-Germain forward Neymar to pay his former club, Barcelona 6.7m euros (£6.1m), after he claimed he was owed 43.6m euros in loyalty bonuses by the Blaugrana.

Neymar, who left Barca in August 2017 for a world record transfer fee of 220 million Euros, filed the lawsuit shortly after leaving the club.

After a judge ruled in favour of the La Liga side, the 28-year-old Neymar can still appeal against the decision.

Reacting to the judgment, the La Liga side that almost resigned Neymar last season said the judgement is a welcome development, adding that it would “continue to defend its legitimate interests firmly.”

The Brazilian superstar also took his complaint to the world governing body Fifa after Barca refused to pay him following his move to the French capital.

After not paying him, Barcelona sued the forward, asking him to pay back £8m he received when he signed a new deal with them in 2016.

Fifa left the case to courts to take any action.

    Neymar returns to PSG training

Meanwhile, the Brazilian superstar who went to his country after the LFP canceled the 2019-20 Ligue 1 season and declared his club the winner, has returned to France.

The French Government had ordered that there won’t be any sporting activity in the country till September, as part of strategies applied to curtail the spread of coronavirus, which halted all human activities for over three months.

According to reports, Neymar returned to Paris refreshed and super-fit Neymar. The club is expected to begin training later this month. He was also joined by a group of friends when he touched down in France. They include fellow Brazilian Thiago Silva, who will be leaving the club in the summer, goalie, Keylor Navas, and Edinson Cavani, who have been in their respective countries during the lockdown period.

Neymar, who returned to Paris three kilos (6.6lbs) lighter than when he left, has been working hard while in Brazil.

With the Ligue 1 decided, it remains unknown what will be the fate of other cup competitions in France. PSG and Lyon are still in this season’s UEFA Champions League as well.

With games banned in France, both teams will be forced to camp outside the country for friendly games before Champions League action resumes in August.
