South Shield FC have reacted to the 17 football fans that were hospitalized after a fatal car crash in Yorkshire left scores injured.
According to reports, the auto crash took place on Saturday, April 13 after a match in Tamworth between South Shields FC and Tamworth.
The victims of the auto crash are said to be fans of South Shields FC who were traveling back from Tamworth after the match.
It was double jeopardy for the National League side, who had lost the match to Tamworth before also ending up as casualties of a deadly auto crash in Yorkshire.
The fans reportedly boarded a single-deck mini bus back after the game before it tumbled on its way.
The scene of the wreckage was cleared by the Emergency services with about 24 people said to be involved in the accident.
17 are said to have been rushed to the hospital while 7 suffer severe Injuries.
Details of the sad incident, as conveyed by a police statement, reveal the minibus collided with a black Skoda Fabia, leading to the accident.
There are still unverified reports that there was a third vehicle which contributed to the accident but it has yet to be ascertained.
Yorkshire Police’s statement on the incident reads:
“Shortly after 7pm on April 13, a number of calls were received reporting a minibus had overturned on the Northbound carriageway near junction 40 with passengers inside.
“The collision involved a black Skoda Fabia and an Iris single-decker minibus.
“Initial enquiries suggest there is a third vehicle involved, a white car, which has not yet been identified.
“There were 17 people injured and taken to hospital for treatment, with seven of those thought to have suffered serious injuries,” police statement reads.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing with the police set to unravel the immediate and remote cause of the accident.
“Enquiries into the circumstances regarding the collision remain ongoing with officers from the Roads Policing Unit,” the police statement adds.
Reacting to the incident, South Shields FC prayed for quick recovery and also expressed solidarity with all the fans involved in the mayhem.
The club statement, shared on social media, reads;
“Our thoughts go out to the supporters involved in a crash on the way home from today’s game. At this moment of time, we have no further details, however, we hope everyone is safe and recovering.”
With the investigations ongoing, the police have urged members of the public, who witnessed the accident, to assist the investigative team by offering more information on the circumstances of the accident.
