Gerard Pique’s ex-girlfriend, Shakira, took to the stage to perform after the first half of the 2024 Copa America final between her country, Colombia and Argentina.

The first half of the match ended in a goalless draw, and Shakira’s performance was marred with controversies.

When she took to the stage, Shakira was dressed in a metallic silver skirt and halter top. She kicked off her performance with her hit song “Hips don’t lie.”

While she was performing, the musician consistently chanted “Te Quiero, Colombia!” which means I love you, Colombia. On the stage, she was accompanied by female dancers who were electrifying.

Shakira performed various classic songs, with some fans noticing most of them were playbacks. She also made use of choreography similar to that used at the 2020 Super Bowl.

The show was initially a 25-minute performance prior to the start of the second half, but Shakira performed less, with the show organisers cutting off the performance.

The former girlfriend of Gerard Pique has been a regular performer in different sports events, most especially football finals. However, her performance in the Copa America final was her first.

Before Shakira’s half-time performance, other big stars made their presence known. A pop singer from Colombia named Karol G, performed the Colombian national anthem. Argentine musician Abel Pintos performed the Argentina national anthem.

How Football Fans Invaded The Pitch Without Tickets And Made It Congested

Fans without tickets for the 2024 Copa America final between Argentina and Colombia climbed the fences and went past the security before making it into the stadium.

Some fans were virtually seen sneaking into the stadium through the ventilation system.

The chaos caused by the football fans before the match lead to a significant delay in the kick-off time.

The law enforcement agencies decided to open the gate of the stadium for free passersby of fans without tickets to avoid stampede and serious injuries that may lead to the abandonment of the game.

The stadium spokesman made a statement, saying, “In collaboration with CONMEBOL and law enforcement officers, the decision was made to open the stadium gates for a short period of time to all fans in order to prevent stampedes and serious injuries at the perimeter.”

“There was serious concern about fans being crushed in an attempt to enter. Law enforcement and security personnel were immediately deployed throughout the stadium and surrounding area to keep fans as safe as possible in light of this unprecedented situation.”

“We urge fans to listen to law enforcement and security personnel throughout the night for the safety of all in attendance.”

After the threat from the fans without tickets subsided, the law enforcement agencies decided to close down the stadium gate.

At least a minimum of 10 people and a maximum of 15 were arrested. Other fans who were trying to enter the stadium inappropriately were escorted out of the stadium.

How old is Shakira?

The Colombian musician was born on February 2, 1977, in the city of Barranquilla, Colombia. Shakira is currently 47 years old.
