Pop music legend Shakira and her ex-lover, Gerard Pique of FC Barcelona were spotted watching their son, Milan play in a mini league baseball game weeks after their breakup.
The former couple were both present to watch their first son, Milan in action on Saturday, September 24, in Barcelona but kept well away from each other.
Before the unhappy divorce, the couple had been together since 2011, with the duo having met while Shakira was filming the music video for her World Cup song “Waka Waka” In 2010.
Meanwhile, Piqué’s team, Spain, happened to win the World Cup that year, where his soon-to-be lover performed during the final match.
Their relationship sprouted rapidly and in the fall of 2012, Shakira used her Instagram account to openly announce to her fans that she was pregnant with the football star’s son.
After two years, following the birth of their eldest son Milan, the couple went in for the second round and revealed that they would be expecting their second child, Sasha, who came into the family in 2015.
Though, there was no record of a wedlock ceremony as the pair admitted publicly that they had no plans to wed, that didn’t stop them from erecting a family life.
However, Shakira and Gerard confirmed their split after spending 12 years together in June 2022.
The couple got separated in June, with the Colombian singer and the Hips Don’t Lie hitmaker confirming a separation by releasing a statement.
Shakira and Pique jointly wrote: “We regret to confirm that we are parting ways. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy.”
The breakup declaration followed rumors in the Spanish tabloids that the pair were on the verge of divorcing with sources claiming the Spanish football legend had cheated on the Popstar.
According to Spanish outlet El Periodico, both Pique and his ex-wife have been living separately for a few weeks after the footballer was kicked out of their family home by the Hips don’t lie pop star.
Meanwhile, it was reported that the 35-year-old Barcelona star has since been living a ‘party lifestyle’ in a bachelor cushion and taking pleasure in nights out with his teammates.
In the same vein, a few months after they went their separate ways, the Spanish and Barcelona football legend went public in a romance with Clara Chia Marti, age 23, and was seen kissing her passionately at the Summerfest Cerdanya festival in Catalonia.
Since then their divorce seemed inevitable. Yet, both Shakira and Gerard are trying to remain friends for the sake of their children and this is evident as they both attended their eldest son’s baseball match.
Whereas, the pair sat on opposing angles of the field as they watched Milan play while awkwardly doing their best not to look at one another.
The 45-year-old “Hips Don’t Lie” hitmaker, was spotted sitting in the stands near the third base with a group of friends including her mother Nidia Ripoll.
While the 35-year-old Gerard Pique also settled on the opposite side near the first base with his mother, Montserrat Bernabeu.
The couple maintained several meters apart throughout the afternoon baseball match and allegedly barely stared at each other throughout the game.
And it was not until their second son Shasa, aged seven, went to say goodbye to Shakira that the ex-lovers went anywhere near each other.
The 45-year-old pop sensation Shakira seemed very energetic and happy as she was captured cheering on Milan, through the fence, and smiling while associating with her group.
The international celeb was seen standing very close to the field as possible to show her support for her son and his team while Gerard quietly stood behind a group of fellow fans who were sitting in folding chairs.
However, at a point, the Spaniard football star was also noticed lovingly playing with their 8-year-old younger son, Sasha, near the dugout.
Meanwhile, Shakira was candid about how difficult life has been for her as her relationship with the Spaniard footballer crashed.
In an interview with Lulu Garcia–Navarro on September 21, 2022, the Hips don’t lie hitmaker said: “It’s hard to talk about it, especially because I’m still going through it, and because I’m in the public eye and because our separation is not like a regular separation.”
She added: “And so it’s been tough not only for me but also for my kids. Incredibly difficult.”
Shakira further explained how the trauma of the divorce affect her two sons. She said: ‘So it’s hard. And I’ve tried to conceal the situation in front of my kids. I try to do it and protect them because that’s my number one mission in life.
‘But then they hear things in school from their friends or they come across some disagreeable, unpleasant news online, and it just affects them, you know?’
However, the singer opted to talk about her ex-husband’s new relationship. While the “She Wolf” hitmaker has been spending plenty of time with their sons since the separation, the footballer found romance again quickly.
Shakira was also aware of how her ex-husband openly kissed his new girlfriend Clara Chia Marti at the Summerfest Cerdanya festival in Catalonia, Spain, on August 19, 2022.
The following day, Gerard went with Clara, aged 23, as his date to a friend’s wedding in Costa Brava, Spain, where the set was spotted holding hands.
The 23-year-old Clara works for Gerard’s movie and TV production company, Kosmos, handling special events for the company.
Meanwhile, the exes were spotted outside of a law firm’s office in recent days, where they were meeting to work out some details after their separation.
A reconciliation, perhaps, seems impossible now that the Spaniard has found a new lover.
