Sevilla Futbol Club, also called Sevilla, is a professional football club that competes in the Spanish La Liga league. The Seville-based soccer outfit, owned by Rafael Carrion Moreno and Sevillistas de Nervion, was founded on the 25th of January 1890.
Sevilla, nicknamed Los Palanganas, have their home ground at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium. The Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan was completed in 1958 after the club had been homeless for over fifty years. The 43,000 capacity stadium was inaugurated in September 1958, during Sevilla’s match against Real Jaen.
The club holds a bitter rivalry with Real Betis. The meeting between the two local city rivals is called Derbi Sevillano or The Great Derby. Real Betis, previously called Sevilla Balompie, were established in 1907 and are also located in Seville, Spain.
Sevilla is one of the most successful clubs in the Spanish division. The. club won the EUFA Europa League for a record five times and the UEFA Super Cup once. Throughout the club’s history, they have won one league title, five League Cups and one Super Cup in the Spanish top flight.
With Julen Lopetegui at the helm, Sevilla have been one of the most exciting sides to watch, both in the Spanish La Liga and in the UEFA Europa League this season. They finished fourth in the La Liga, just behind third-placed Atletico Madrid on goal difference.
Their scintillating form also continued in the Europa League and the Los Palanganas recently booked a semi-final place in the famous competition, following a 1-0 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
