This season, Sergio Ramos has only played 175 minutes for Paris Saint-Germain. It only took him that long to receive his first red card with his new team.

In the disappointing 1-1 draw against relegation challenger Lorient in Ligue 1, the Spaniard came on as a half-time substitute and didn’t even make it through the second half.

    Red Card for Ramos

After going a whole calendar year without being sent off, Ramos, the former Real Madrid red-card king, was sent off once more, setting a new record with 27 red cards in all competitions.

Ramos, who is known for his usage of the dark arts on the field, received his first yellow card in the 81st minute and was sent off four minutes later for knocking down Terem Moffi. Ramos had no choice but to put his backside out and bundle Moffi to the ground after the Lorient forward took him to school with a stunning one-on-one play.

Ramos was well aware of his actions, and he paid the consequence.

The game ended in a 1-1 tie, with Mauro Icardi netting a last-gasp equalizer for PSG to prevent additional humiliation in an otherwise lackluster performance by the French giants.

Prior to his summer departure to Paris, Ramos was sent off 26 times throughout his 16-year tenure with Real Madrid.

Due to a calf ailment that kept him out for the first three months of the season, the 35-year-old has only made one appearance for PSG before last week. He played 45 minutes in Sunday’s French Cup victory before making his third appearance against Lorient on Wednesday.

He’ll be suspended for the opening Ligue 1 encounter of the new year, against Lyon on January 9, but fans will be most interested in seeing him fit to play in a series in February. With PSG drawn against Real Madrid in the Champions League, the Spaniard is preparing to face the club he once commanded.

The first leg of the two-legged competition will take place in Paris on February 15, with Ramos returning to Madrid for the second game on March 9.

As you can expect, social media had a field day with the red card against Lorient before the spectacular moments that are sure to come in the Champions League.
