Sergio Ramos is not the top-scoring defender of all time despite scoring 126 career goals but he is the highest-scoring defender in international history and Spanish La Liga.
The 34-year-old Spanish defender scored his 100th goal for Real Madrid on Tuesday night against Inter Milan in a UEFA Champions League group B match.
The Spain international reached this milestone in the 33rd minute of the match which ended 3-2 in favor of Real Madrid. Ramos took advantage of Toni Kross pass to head in the club’s second goal of the match.
Sergio Ramos and his records.
Sergio Ramos headed goal on Tuesday night has brought his total number of headed goals for Real Madrid to 55. Besides that, the Spain international has scored 21 penalties, 22 goals with his feet during open play, and two free-kicks.
Sergio Ramos who has played 659 times for Real Madrid has scored 14 Champions League goals for the club which makes him the third-highest goalscorer in the Champions League for Madrid behind Raul and Karim Benzema.
Besides that, no defender in the history of Spanish La Liga has scored as many as 74 league goals except Ramos. The defender who has won 25 professional titles for both club and country including the FIFA World Cup, is the only defender in international football that has scored 26 goals.
“It’s not bad,” Sergio Ramos said after he scored his 100th goal for Real Madrid on Tuesday. “Individual records are secondary, but you like hitting them. As long as they keep on helping the side win then hopefully I can get a few more.”

Who is the top-scoring defender of all time?
From our research, it has been discovered that Sergio Ramos is not the first defender to be so effective in front of goal. In fact, within Real Madrid, the Spain international who was recently voted as the best defender of all time by the readers of France Football, the magazine that organizes Ballon d’Or, is not the top-scoring defender in the history of Real Madrid.
Fernando Hierro who played for Real Madrid between 1989 and 2003 remains the highest scoring defender of the club as the Spaniard scored 124 goals for Madrid before he left the club.
Football records hold that Argentine iconic defender, Daniel Passarella who used to be the highest-scoring defender in international football with 22 goals, is still the top-scoring defender in the history of football. The defender who played majorly for Inter Milan and Fiorentina scored 175 goals before he retired from professional football.
The current coach of FC Barcelona, Ronald Koeman would have been the top-scoring defender of all time but during his playing days at FC Barcelona and PSV, he sometimes played from the midfield. He scored 250 goals which he mostly did as a midfielder and less frequently as a defender.
