Sergio Ramos, a defender for Paris Saint-Germain, thinks Lionel Messi is the “greatest player football has ever produced” despite having previously played with Cristiano Ronaldo.
The legendary Real Madrid player is one of the very few to have shared the field with both football greats.
During Los Blancos’ legendary matches versus Barcelona, Ramos used to attack Messi with some heavy challenges while putting passes into Ronaldo’s foot.
Ramos additionally shared the field with Ronaldo in the Spanish city during the Portuguese star’s prime. Ramos believes Messi to be the finest player ever, despite the fact that both himself and Messi are in their late 40s.
“There was suffering for several years playing against Messi,” Ramos told PSG TV.
“I am now enjoying him. He is the best player football has ever produced.”
Ramos has frequently praised Ronaldo, but he has never referred to the five-time Ballon d’Or winner as the greatest player to ever play the game.
Ramos referred to Ronaldo as the “best player in the world” for that season in 2012, but he never went on to call him the greatest player of all time.
In a 2018 interview with Telefoot, Ramos stated, “Our number seven is a striker like we have never seen before.”
“He is already a legend and will be recognised as one of the best players in the history of football. Cristiano Ronaldo has a very important role in the team and everyone respects it.”
Sergio Ramos Garca, a professional football player from Spain who was born on March 30, 1986, competes for both the Spain national team and Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain as a center back.
He was a defender for Real Madrid for sixteen seasons, winning four UEFA Champions League titles, two UEFA European Championships, and the 2010 FIFA World Cup with his country. Known for his combative play, he is recognized as one of the greatest defenders of all time.
Ramos joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2005 after spending two seasons with the senior team and progressing through Sevilla’s development academy.
Since then, he has established himself as a staple for Real Madrid, winning 22 significant awards, including five La Liga championships and four UEFA Champions League crowns. He has also developed into one of the league’s best goal scorers from a defensive position.
Ramos was a member of the La Liga Team of the Season in 2015–16 and has been voted La Liga’s Best Defender for a league record five times. He made a free transfer to join Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.
Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo
For the past ten years and more, Ronaldo and Messi’s duel has been the defining aspect of modern football.
When Messi won his sixth Ballon d’Or in 2019, he overtook Ronaldo in the race and solidified his position as the winner in that category with his seventh in 2021.
Although Ronaldo has earned more UEFA Player of the Year awards and FIFA’s “The Best” honours, Messi has received more league Player of the Year honors.
It goes without saying that Ronaldo has been recognized as Player of the Year in England, Spain, and Italy.
The fact that both players have appeared on the FIFPro World XI 14 times shows how closely contested the race has been. Messi has won the European Golden Shoe a record six times, two more than Ronaldo, and is narrowly ahead of his adversary overall.
But when you ask who’s the greatest football has ever seen, the argument doesn’t have a definite answer because everyone has an individual preference.
