Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has reacted to City’s signing of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund. The former Argentina striker warned Man City that Erling Haaland will need time to adapt to the new life in the English Premier League.
The 21-year-old striker joined Manchester City this summer on a £51 million ($63m) deal but is yet to play a game for them.
Although Sergio Aguero warned the club about Haaland, he also backed the young player to succeed in the English Premier League. Erling Haaland, who’s regarded as one of the best strikers in the world is expected to bring goals to Manchester City.
The Norway hitman had an amazing time in the German Bundesliga as he scored 61 goals in 66 league games for Borussia Dortmund.
While Aguero is hopeful that Pep Guardiola will bring out the best in Erling Haaland, he admitted that he must be allowed to get used to his new environment.
While speaking during an interview with some journalists, the English Premier League legend said: “Haaland will take time to adjust to England and Pep’s demands just like I did.
“Haaland is a very important signing. I think his goal-scoring ability is proven. His stats through the German league and in Europe confirms this.”
🎙 | Sergio Aguero on Erling Haaland: “An elite player like him will know how to reconcile his style with Pep’s teams. It may take a while, as it did for me. Once he gets into gear everything will be simpler. He has talent to fulfill what is asked; goals.”

Aguero, who spent 10 years at City added that Erling Haaland will certainly have a period of adaptation in order to get used to the club, style of play, and league.
According to him, the prolific striker will go through his process before he would start banging in the goals.
Note that Sergio Aguero also struggled to get used to Pep Guardiola’s style of play when the manager joined City in 2016, but he later got back into his goal-scoring abilities.
Aguero joined Manchester City in 2011 and left the club after 10 years as the club’s all-time highest goal scorer. Since his departure in 2021, Pep Guardiola has played without a traditional striker and still performed well. However, the signing of Erling Haaland and Argentinian star Julian Alvarez will give the team an opportunity to play with a striker again.
Man City have already lost their striker Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal and winger Raheem Sterling to Chelsea this summer.
Sergio Aguero believes that the two forwards will be missed in the City squad but Pep Guardiola always knows the best.
However, the club has replaced them with Haaland and Alvarez who joined from River Plate. Manchester City have also added two more players to their team with the signing of Kalvin Philips from Leeds United and Stefan Ortega from Arminia Bielefeld.
