FC Barcelona embattled striker, Sergio Aguero is expected to announce his retirement from football on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, after weeks of battle with a heart-related health condition.
The 33-year-old Argentine striker has been out of football for about two months. He last played a competitive game in October 2021. The Spanish La Liga match was between FC Barcelona and Alaves which ended in a 1-1 draw.
During the first half of the game, he complained of difficulty in breathing and had to be substituted almost immediately. He was taken to the hospital afterward where he was diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat).
Since then, he has been going through routine medical treatment. He has also made a couple of public appearances based on some of his posts on Instagram.
For instance, in one of his recent posts on Instagram, the former Manchester City striker could be seen in a nightclub sitting on a chair while an artist sketched him on a piece of paper.
Also, three days ago, he was seen hanging out with his lover, Sofi Cαlzetti at a formula one (F1) arena.
In November, Sergio Aguero was seen on a golf course playing golf alone which means that he is not bedridden.
Even though he has been making public appearances occasionally, Aguero’s heart condition has not permitted him to return to training since October.
Hence, the football star who joined FC Barcelona last summer from Manchester City on a free transfer is expected to hold a press conference on Wednesday at the Spanish club to announce his retirement from professional football.
This means that the 33-year-old striker would not follow Argentina’s national team to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and his contract with Barcelona which ought to expire on June 30, 2023, will be terminated.
Since Sergio Aguero joined FC Barcelona on July 1, 2021, he managed to play 5 games in all competitions and scored just a goal in a total of 165 minutes of football.
