Manchester City could be without one of their finest strikers, Sergio Aguero, for two months according to the manager of the club, Pep Guardiola.

The 32-year-old Argentina center-forward has been out with a knee injury since June 22, 2020. The injury forced him to miss 12 games in all competitions at the tail head of the 2019-2020 season.

Sergio Aguero has been with Manchester City since 2011 and has been the club’s all-time highest goalscorer since 2017. Besides being City’s all-time highest goalscorer, the Argentina striker is Premier League 4th all-time goalscorer.

He has scored a total of 254 goals and provided 73 assists in 370 appearances for Manchester City which makes him the undisputed goalscorer at the club. However, injury has been taking the best of him as he was not able to compete with the top 5 goalscorers in the Premier League last season.

For instance, in the 2019-2020 season, Sergio Aguero managed to play only 24 Premier League matches out of 38 due to his knee injury. In the low number of matches, the Argentine striker scored 16 goals and provided 4 assists.

Before the season ended, the Manchester City star managed to play a total of 32 matches in all competitions in which he scored 23 goals and provided 4 assists.

The unstable situation of his fitness level and the fact that Manchester City is scoring a good number of goals without him could force the club not to renew his contract which will expire in June 2021. His injury issue could also make it difficult for him to find a suitable club this summer or in the January transfer window.

“We knew the injury was difficult,” Guardiola said. “He still hasn’t had one training session with us and Sergio is not a guy who regains his physical condition quickly. He has been out for a long time, so maybe in one or two months he will be ready.”

Manchester City will commence their 2020-2021 Premier League campaign on Monday, September 21 when they face Wolves. Pep Guardiola will bank on attackers like Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling, and his new signing Ferran Torres to bang in the goals Sergio Aguero could have scored if he was fit for the match.

Hence, if Sergio Aguero’s knee injury lingers on and Raheem Sterling continues to perform his “false nine” role very well, the Argentina striker might just be surplus to requirement at the club and might exit the club at the end of 2020-2021 season as a free agent if no club comes for him before then.
