Sergio Aguero is not in the plans of the manager of Arsenal football club, Mikel Arteta contrary to speculation linking the Argentine football icon to the club. The Manchester City star is expected to leave City this summer but his next destination has not been known.

Immediately Manchester City announced that Sergio Aguero would leave City when his contract expires in June 2021, reports started making the rounds that Arsenal are interested in his services.

The 32-year-old striker who struggled with match fitness issues during the 2020-2021 season is also linked to some other European clubs including Chelsea but no official move has been made for his services. Any club that comes for him this summer is expected to acquire him for free since his contract with City will expire in June.

Mikel Arteta who has worked with Sergio Aguero for three years (2016-2019) while he was the assistant coach at Manchester City, was asked earlier today, April 1, whether Arsenal was planning to sign the Argentine football icon; the Spanish tactician said: “No, no, no… we will see what happens with him in the future.”

However, Mikel Arteta went on to sing the praises of Sergio Aguero who is the all-time highest goalscorer of Manchester City, the foreign striker in the Premier League with the highest amount of goals, and the league’s fourth all-time highest goalscorer. Arteta described the Argentine international as a player with charisma.

The Arsenal manager didn’t stop there, he went on to note that Sergio Aguero was instrumental in all the successes that Manchester City recorded in the last 11 years, adding that Aguero is loved by everyone at City.

“He has probably been the main face or one of the three main faces that have lifted that project”, Arteta said.

“You need some leadership, some quality, players to create moments to start to build a project like they did and Sergio is probably the biggest face on that project.

“It is not only how he plays [but] his charisma, personality and the way he is. He is loved by everybody at the club.

“It is sad to see someone leaving like him but I think what he has done there he will be in the history…

“Sergio has a unique quality to see spaces where nobody else can see and score goals in a really easy way so that I am sure that he will find the right next project.”

Before Manchester City announced that Sergio Aguero would leave the club this summer, the 32-year-old striker had scored the club’s record 257 goals and provided 73 assists in 384 games in all competitions.

The former Atletico Madrid striker has scored 181 Premier League goals and provided 54 assists in 271 league games for Manchester City. He however managed to make just 8 Premier League appearances in which he scored a goal so far this season due to fitness issues.
