Sergio Aguero, former Manchester City striker believes that Cristiano Ronaldo relied on “Pure Luck” and should not be considered a better goalscorer than Lionel Messi.

Lionel Messi scored his 702nd goal in European football on Saturday, 8th of April, 2023, following Paris Saint Germain’s 2-0 victory over Nice in the Ligue 1.

The goal was extraordinary for Lionel Messi as he saw himself overtake Cristiano Ronaldo for the most goal scored in Europe.

The goal reignited the discussion of who is better, Ronaldo or Messi, in terms of scoring goals.

Therefore, Sergio Aguero took a dig at Cristiano Ronaldo on Twitter via Medio Tiempo, making a case for Lionel Messi, and claims that Ronaldo’s goals were not in the same category as his former International teammates.

Sergio Aguero said in a statement that reads; “Look where he scores the goal from, come on, all free kicks goals and pure luck”.

Aguero added, “Messi is all at the angle, stupid. But what does Ronaldo do? Goalkeeper’s fault.

“I think Raul has better goals, Karim Benzema, I think he has better ones”.

Aguero then criticized Ronaldo for scoring so many free-kicks towards the end of his statement, referring to the countless clips of Messi dribbling past defenders.

Sergio Aguero concluded his invective by claiming that Ronaldo’s winning Puskas goal against Porto from 35 yards out in 2009 was likewise luck.

Unfortunately, a heart condition forced Aguero to retire in 2021, and this summer, with his PSG contract expiring, Messi has been linked with a return to Barcelona.

Messi’s future with PSG is unclear with his contract ending in the summer, and both Saudi Arabia and the MLS have expressed interest in signing the Barcelona hero.

FC Barcelona recently acknowledged they had contacted Messi about a possible return to Camp Nou, and vice president Rafa Yuste has declared that he is convinced “fate will make it possible” for the club to re-sign the 35-year-old.

Messi’s contract talks with the French powerhouse have been placed on pause.

Last month Yuste said, “Leo and his family know the affection we have for them”.

Ronaldo, on the other hand, signed a lucrative agreement with Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr after leaving Manchester United following the termination of his contract in November.

The 38-year-old Portuguese forward has settled in well with Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, where he has scored 11 goals in 12 games.

In the Saudi Premier League match between Al Nassr and Abha last month, Ronaldo scored both goals with fantastic free kicks.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has been praised for his spectacular free-kick moments but criticized for his spotty performance from the penalty spot.
