American right-back Sergino Dest has joined Eredivisie giant PSV on a permanent deal after a successful loan spell at the club.
The American right back confirmed his departure from Barcelona via an official announcement, saying, “First of all, PSV believes in me, and I am greatly appreciated here. I got to know the club, and it is incredibly warm, like I have never experienced anywhere before.”
“Those are important aspects for someone in my situation and give me confidence that I can rehabilitate well here. I’m really looking forward to getting minutes again, being important, and winning more titles.”
He has signed a four years contract with the PSV side which will expire on June 30, 2028. He will join the squad when he becomes fit for matches next season.
Barcelona are expected to receive a percentage on any future sale of the player. The PSV bosses turned down an opportunity to make the loan deal permanent in April 2024 after the player tore his ACL.
However, there was negotiation between Barcelona and PSV to find the best option to ensure Sergino Dest moved to the Dutch League.
Barcelona hoped to raise more than €10 million in the deal to sell Dest to PSV but the horrible injury made it impossible as his contract runs down.
He is focused on getting fit for the 2024–25 season. The PSV medical team and coaching staff are helping him with his rehabilitation process and making sure he regains full fitness.
The move to PSV will surely reignite his career. He was one of the most creative right-backs before he moved to Barcelona. His move to Barcelona was not as successful as expected.
