It is no longer news that Liverpool has won the Premier League trophy after 30 years of waiting, but Jurgen Klopp’s team has seat new record for other teams to break.
Following Manchester City’s defeat to Chelsea, the city of Liverpool was aging, with fans breaking the social distancing guidelines put in place to prevent further spread of the coronavirus, jubilating how their team has been a bright side throughout the season.
The Reds had shown promises in the 2018-2019 season after losing the title to Manchester City by a point. They quickly wrapped it up this season with 23 points gap and seven games to play. On their way to the historic victory, Liverpool has blown many opposition away with sleek and attractive football and accumulated an incredible number of points.
Despite breaking new grounds, there are more records to create since the 2019/20 season isn’t over yet.
Fact needed to be known about Liverpool’s success and the remaining games
Liverpool will be eagerly waiting to lift the trophy in their final home game of the season on July 18 against Chelsea before playing their last game against Newcastle at the St James Park.
Liverpool’s next set of games are Manchester City (away) July 2, Aston Villa (home) July 5, Brighton (away) July 8, Burnley (home) July 11, Arsenal (away) July 15, Chelsea (home) July 18, and Newcastle (away) July 26.
Apart from wrapping up the title early, Liverpool had already amassed 61 points from their opening 21 matches, which is the record for most points accumulated by that stage in any top five European leagues. They eventually extended the record to 79 points from 27 matches before suffering a 3-0 loss against Watford.
Liverpool also set a new record as most points won over 38 games with 104 points (a maximum possible total of 114) with a 1-0 win over Spurs on January 11). Manchester City set the initial record at 102 in 2018 and Chelsea (2005).
The Merseyside club also has the biggest lead at the top of the table with a 25 point lead at one stage of the season, which is the largest ever in the English top division.
Liverpool also recorded their consecutive wins in 21 home games with a 3-2 win over West Ham on February 24. It later became 23 after winning Bournemouth and Crystal Palace, beating the former record of 20 set by Manchester City between 2011 and 2012.
By virtue of the 23 points lead, Liverpool became the earliest team to have ever won the title with seven games to spare. The Reds beat the former record of five set by Manchester United in 2000/2001 and Manchester City in 2017/18.
As the games remain seven, Liverpool can still break more records with Manchester City having the highest win of the season with 32 games in the 2017/18 season. Liverpool is on 28, with seven still to play.
They could also break the 18 home wins in a season set by Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City, with 16 won so far and have three games to play at Anfield.
With four away games left to play, Liverpool could Manchester City’s record of 19 away games win set in 2017/18. Liverpool has won 12 out of 15 so far, with four still to play.
