Manchester United central midfielder Scott McTominay says what has been keeping him going in the club is that he always tries not to be carried away by the luxury he enjoys in Old Trafford.

The 23-year-old Scotland national team footballer has been in Manchester United all his life as he graduated from the Club’s football academy.

He was promoted to the senior team in 2017 and has made 51 appearances for the Red Devils and managed to score 6 goals in all competitions.

McTominay told United Podcast that he is not one of the footballers who get to a club like Manchester United and take the life of luxury offered at the club for granted.

He urged footballers to be like him by not forgetting where they come from in order not to be carried away by the luxurious life their clubs make available to them.

“For me, you hear the stories about getting the life of luxury at Manchester United and people take that for granted, like the food in the canteen, your kit being laid out for you every morning,” McTominay said.

“People just expect that and you have to always remember where you come from in that respect and always appreciate what people do for you. I feel like that is a culture that is brought through for us.”

Scott McTominay was one of the footballers in Manchester United that didn’t enjoy playing time during the reign of Jose Mourinho.

Despite not enjoying enough playing time until Mourinho left the club and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over, he said he refused to accept a loan deal from Celtic before the commencement of the 2019-2020 football season in order to stay at United to prove his worth.

He said: “About a year-and-a-half ago there was a time where it (loan move) might have been a possibility and then somebody leaves or something like that, and then your opportunity comes and you have to take it.

“You hear loads of stories about boys going on loan and different things like that and I always had it in my head that I don’t want that. I want to be showing myself here first and if it doesn’t work here then you go somewhere else.”
