Manchester United midfielder, Scott McTominay took to his Instagram page earlier today, August 26, 2021, to confirm that he has undergone surgery to treat a groin injury.
The 24-year-old Scottish midfielder shared a picture of himself in a hospital room after he had successfully undergone the surgery and described it as minor surgery.
Scott McTominay also used the caption to reveal that he has been trying to manage the groin injury for months. He also confirmed that he would not be available for Manchester United vs Wolves Premier League game which is scheduled to kick off at 16:30 on Sunday, August 29, 2021.
McTominay who was not invited to the national team of Scotland ahead of their FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September said he hated that he would not be active during the September FIFA international break.
He wrote: “Just to let you all know I’ve had minor surgery on an issue which has needed managing for the last couple of months, I hate missing games so to be missing Wolves on the weekend & the international break is so disappointing but that’s part & parcel of the game. Wishing all the boys the best of luck & I will be back sooner than you think.”
Before Scott McTominay’s Instagram post, Manchester United have announced that the Scotland international had undergone a successful surgery.
In the club’s statement released earlier today, Manchester United said the footballer had to undergo surgery when every other means to treat his groin injury during pre-season failed.
Though the club failed to announce when Scott McTominay would be fit enough to play again, it is believed that the midfielder should have recovered before the end of September.
“Scott has undergone surgery for an ongoing groin injury that was causing significant pain when playing,” a statement from Manchester United read.
“Having tried all other treatment options in pre-season, surgery was deemed necessary to resolve the issue. We hope to have him back soon.”
Scott McTominay has been playing for Manchester United since he was a teenager. He is among the few products of the club’s youth system that succeeded in establishing themselves in the club’s first team.
Since he gained promotion to the club’s senior team on July 1, 2017, McTominay has scored 14 goals and provided 3 assists in 135 games.
He played in the club’s first two Premier League games this season. His current contract with Manchester United will expire on June 30, 2025.
