German football giants FC Schalke 04 have announced the signing of Hertha BSC goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow on a season-long loan.
Unfortunately, the two teams involved have decided to keep the details of the deal out from the media.
Recall that Schalke 04 made it back to the Bundesliga after a terrible 2020/21 season which got them relegated.
The Bundesliga club is preparing to challenge for the title next season. Their sporting director, Rouven Schröder described Alexander Schwolow as an experienced goalkeeper.
“Alexander is an experienced goalkeeper that will provide our team with some stability. He’s shown his quality at all his previous clubs”, he said after Schalke 04 sealed the goalkeeper’s deal.
“We are confident that he will improve our goalkeeping team and that he can contribute to us achieving our targets next season.” “Alex is happy to give up a lot of money to move to Schalke. He made it clear to us that playing football is his absolute priority.”
Also, Schalke 04’s team manager has expressed delight in the new signing as he believes that Alexander Schwolow has the quality they need in a goalkeeper.
He said: “We all agreed that Alexander had all the qualities a number one goalkeeper needs when we spoke about this position. He will fit in well with the club and the team.”
According to Alexander Schwolow, he’s ready to start the pre-season games with Schalke 04. He added that he’s aware of the new challenges ahead of him at the club.
Alexander said: “I’m really pleased that the deal is done and I will be at Schalke ready for pre-season. I’m aware of the challenges ahead of us – it will be a tough time and I’m ready to get stuck in together with my new teammates,”.
To date, the 1.90-meter-tall goalkeeper has made 176 appearances in the Bundesliga and 33 appearances in the second division. He spent most of his career with SC Freiburg, having joined them in the summer of 2008 as a 16-year-old from SV Wehen Wiesbaden.
Schwolow went up to their U23s after two seasons in their academy before signing his first senior deal in January 2012.
Schwolow spent the 2014/15 season on loan at Arminia Bielefeld, where he was a key part of their 3 Liga championship and DFB-Pokal semi-final appearance. Since the summer of 2020, he has been on the books at Hertha BSC.
