German winger Leroy Sane has made his intention known that he wants to leave Manchester City for Bayern Munich in the January transfer window.
The 23-year-old is currently recovering from injury and has only made one appearance this season in the Community Shield win over Liverpool in August.
Sane’s current contract at the Etihad runs out in June 2020 and has struggled to hold down a spot in the starting eleven. Also, manager Pep manager this season has played Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva ahead of the German. He has also found himself often coming off the bench to make an impact.
Despite Sane not featuring since August, the champions have slipped 14 points behind leaders Liverpool in the Premier League after 17 games.
Guardiola always remained optimistic Sane could make a return when he said: ‘He’s coming back before the end of the season. In January, December, February could be perfect. He should be perfect.’
In the summer, the Bundesliga champions wanted to sign him but the deal fell through due to City’s high valuation of the player. Now Sane has now reportedly decided that his future lies away from Etihad stadium.
Report says that if Bayern wants the winger, Manchester City would demand up to £137million from the German giants. But Sane’s late to return to fitness until February may make the deal difficult to pull off.
However, according to Sport Bild, Sane has made up his mind that he wants to return to his homeland as soon as next month.
Sane has rejected new contract offers from City and they know that they risk losing him for nothing in 2021. This will, however, negatively impact their need to balance the books amid ongoing checks that they remain compliant with Financial Fair Play rules.
However, Bayern sees Sane as a perfect long-term replacement to both Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery who left the club last summer.
