Sandro Tonali could face another ban by English Football Association following his illegal betting scandal.
Tonali is currently serving a 10-month ban by Italian Football Federation FIGC after he was found to have breach betting rules.
His 10-month ban in Italy has been expanded by FIFA following a request by FGIC making Tonali ineligible to play football in any FIFA member association until the expiration of the ban.
While his ban was orchestrated by Italian Football authorities, the English FA have also began investigations into the scandal and could hit the player with a fresh ban if he is found guilty.
According to The Sun, the FA have began probe on Tonali to establish whether he violated betting rules in the UK after joining Newcastle United from AC Milan in the summer.
Sandro Tonali admitted to struggling with betting addiction and had to rely on his legal counsel to negotiate a more humane punishment from Italian football authorities.
He could have faced a ban ranging from 2-4 years but ran out with a less-than-a-year ban after pleading guilty.
In his short career transition to the Premier League, Sandro Tonali could also face a fresh ban if he continued with his illegal betting in the UK.
As of the time of filing this report, Tonali is yet to see through a month of his 10-month ban but could be slammed with another ban as things stand.
The FA have strict rules on gambling by professional footballers. Brentford forward Ivan Toney was slammed with an 8-month ban for breaching gambling rules.
Sandro Tonali could suffer a similar fate if found guilty. Meanwhile, Newcastle United have also began their own investigation on the betting scandal.
The club are reportedly furious on the development and are poised to take up legal action against AC Milan for keeping them in the dark while they wanted to sign the player in the summer.
The Magpies wouldn’t have obviously wanted to go ahead with a deal for Tonali if they knew the player is under the radars of Italian football authorities for betting scandal.
However, it is still unclear whether AC Milan knew about the scandal before selling the player to Newcastle United.
