    Sadio Mane has been suspended by Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich after he punched fellow teammate Leroy Sane in the face following Champions League defeat at the Etihad.

    The club is also set to fine Sadio Mane and he won’t be part of the Bayern Munich squad that will play at home against Hoffenheim on Saturday.

    Recent reports have it that Sane’s lips were bleeding after the bust-up with the former Liverpool player and both players had to be separated by teammates in the locker room.

    The German giants in a statement said: “Sadio Mane, 31, will not be in the FC Bayern squad for the home game against 1899 Hoffenheim next Saturday. The reason is Mane’s misconduct after FC Bayern’s Champions League game at Manchester City. In addition, Mane will receive a fine.”

    Bayern Munich’s officials in a meeting on Wednesday discussed a possible punishment for the African Footballer of the Year.

    Reports from Germany confirmed that the sanctions considered included fine, suspension, and even a parting of the ways in the summer.

    Sadio Mane who is 31 years old is expected to tender an apology during the team’s next training session.

    The duo, Mane and Sane were seen on the pitch exchanging words in the closing minutes of the Champions League match on Tuesday as City beat Bayern in the quarter-final first leg.

    After the team returned to Munich after the defeat, Mane, who came on as a substitute went home in a private vehicle while Sane followed the team bus.

    Sane was seen hiding his injured lips from cameras as he returned to the German capital.

    Sadio Mane is a Senegalese professional footballer who plays for Bayern Munich and the Senegal national team, he was born on 10 April 1992.

    Mane is regarded as one of the best players in the world and also one of the greatest African players of all time. He is known for pressing, dribbling, and pace.

    Sadio Mane began his professional career with Metz in the French Ligue 2 at the age of 19, then he departed after a season to join Australian club Red Bull Salzburg in 2012.

    At Salzburg, he won the league and cup domestic double in the 2013–14 season.

    Later in that summer, Mane was signed by Southampton and moved to England for a then club record fee of £11.8 million.

    Mane was a clinical attacker at Southampton, he scored three goals in 176 seconds in a 6–1 win over Aston Villa in 2015, which set a new Premier League record for the fastest hat-trick.

    Mane then moved to Liverpool in 2016 for a reported fee of £34 million, making him the most expensive African player as at that time.

    Mane joined German giants Bayern Munich on 22nd June 2022 which will see him stay at the Bundesliga side until 30 June 2025.

    The amount Bayern payed for Mane was reportedly €32 million (£27.4m) and potentially rising to €41 million (£35m) based on appearances plus individual and team achievements.
