Mane’s contract with Liverpool expires in 2023, and the Champions League finalists have yet to offer him a new deal. However, after Liverpool’s season is over, an offer is expected to arrive in the coming months. The club is attempting to achieve an unprecedented quadruple.

On the contract front, Sadio Mane is in a similar situation to fellow Reds attacker Mohamed Salah, who is also out of contract in 2023, though their demands are different. Salah is vying to become the club’s highest-paid player, and his situation is significantly more precarious at the moment.

Mane’s demands aren’t as draconian as those made by Salah’s camp, but he does want an increase on his current salary.

According to 90 minutes, Mane’s representation asked for a deal last year that would put him ahead of Virgil van Dijk, who is now the club’s best-paid player. The Dutchman presently earns roughly £220,000 per week, but with annual raises, he will soon be earning close to £250,000.

Mane is thought to want between £250,000 and £300,000, which would make him the highest-paid player in the current squad.

Fenway Sports Group, the club’s owners, have so far refused to accept Salah’s demands, and it remains to be seen how far they would go to negotiate with Mane.

Luis Diaz was purchased from Porto by FSG in January, and the Colombian has made an immediate impression. Following Jurgen Klopp’s agreed contract extension through 2026 last week, the ownership now believes he can lead the side into the future, however, this could mean the team moves forward without either Mane or Salah – or possibly both.

Klopp believes that he wants Salah and Mane to stay for the long haul, but he is delegating negotiations to FSG and others in positions above him.

Mane does not want to leave Liverpool, according to sources, but with just over a year left on his contract, other options may need to be addressed ahead of time. If the Liverpool offer isn’t what he wants, he may look into other choices.
