Senegal, who have never won an AFCON, had two penalty decisions overturned after VAR intervention in the first half, with Burkina Faso goalkeeper Herve Koffi suffering an injury as a result of the first incident.

On 70 minutes, Abdou Diallo of Paris Saint-Germain scored for Senegal with a brilliant turn and finish after his centre-back partner Kalidou Koulibaly’s bicycle kick redirected an out swinging corner back towards goal.

Senegal qualified for their third Africa Cup of Nations final, with Sadio Mane on target to help them win against Burkina Faso.

Despite appearing to be lacking in energy and ideas, Burkina Faso came alive following a double change and pulled a goal back when Blati Toure’s unorthodox knee finish flew past Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

With three minutes remaining, Mane secured the victory when he was let through on goal and lofted the ball over Burkina Faso replacement goalkeeper Farid Ouedraogo.

“We knew it wouldn’t be easy; after all, it was a Cup of Nations semi-final,” Mane added. “We were also up against a strong Burkina Faso team that caused us a lot of trouble.”

“We were composed and took advantage of our opportunities, and I believe we deserved to win.”

Mane has now equaled Senegal’s all-time goalscoring record of 29, matching Henri Camara’s total of 29.

Senegal is back in the Africa Cup of Nations final, but this time they’ll be trying to go one step further than they did in the last edition, when they were defeated 1-0 by Algeria in Egypt in 2019.

Burkina Faso, on the other hand, will play the loser of Thursday’s semi-final in Saturday’s third-fourth-place play-off, which begins at 7 p.m.
