McElhenney first showed interest in the idea after the Wales legend congratulated Wrexham on promotion to the EFL.

While co-owner Reynolds attempted to charm the retired Wales international by posting a follow-up image with Gareth Bale in a Wrexham shirt.

In the post featuring the former Real Madrid forward in the club’s shirt, a 1984 song “We Belong” by Pat Benatar was playing in the background.

Gareth Bale who is 33 years old agreed to play a round of golf with McElhenney but confirmed that he is unlikely to come out of retirement.

That, however, has not deterred the Hollywood pair as they are looking forward to life in League Two after winning the National League.

McElhenney in an interview with S4C said: “I think there’s seriousness from our side, but I don’t know that there’s seriousness from his. I think he’s happy.”

While Ryan Reynolds added: “I’m also weirdly happy for him to do exactly what he wants to do with his life.”

“He’s given up so much for a sport that he loves. It’s fun, though. I like that we can kind of do some stuff that’s a little outside the box of convention when it comes to goofing around.”

“I didn’t think Ben Foster would be coming over and he did.”

Ben Foster came out of retirement to help the club and also proved to be a big success after signing a deal until end of the season in March.

While Foster has proven himself to be an integral part of the team, Ryan Reynolds and McElhenney are looking to extend his stay.

Ben Foster, who is a former Manchester United player, saved a last-gasp penalty to help Wrexham beat Notts County in their crucial title clash last month.

“We never make a short-term decision. Any player that we sign, we sign from at least a three year deal – expect for one”, McElhenney said in regards to transfer style.

His pal, Ryan Reynolds as always quickly joked, saying: “I think his name is Foster, young kid.”

Then McElhenney added: “He’s a real fresh faced, young lad.”

“He’s the guy we are going to work on. Other than that, I think we have a really strong side and if Phil [Parkinson] says we need someone else, then we will do our best to go out and get them.”
