The Blues are bracing for the upcoming 2022-2023 Premier League campaign as the league kicks off, with Arsenal opening the season with a clash with Crystal Palace on August 5.

Chelsea will battle Merseyside Everton in their opening fixture, while Manchester United and Manchester City tackle Brighton and West Ham, respectively.

From the list of new squad numbers assigned to players by Chelsea, former Everton and England star Ross Barkley top the list of players without squad numbers. This is a clear message to the player that the new Chelsea owner, Todd Boehly in charge of the Blues’ transfer decision, no longer fancies his service at the club, although he still trains with the first team.

Ross Barkley is a 29-year-old English footballer of Nigerian descent but prefers using his mother’s name as his official name. He plays as an attacking midfielder and has spent the entirety of his career in English football, with stints at Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds United, Aston Villa, and Everton. He has featured for the different levels of the England national team including the National Senior Men’s team.

Barkley started his Premier League career with the Everton youth team, where he rose to prominence between 2005 and 2010. He was transferred to the main team in 2010 after a brilliant spell with the youth team.

The 29-year-old established himself as one of the top midfielders in the Premier League throughout his eight years with Everton. He made 150 appearances for the Merseyside club, scoring 21 goals.

In 2018, Chelsea signed Barkley for a five-and-a-half-year contract with the sum of £15m. He debuted for the Blues on January 24 in a 2-1 loss against Arsenal in the semi-final of the EFL Cup.

Barkley’s Chelsea’s started to dwindle when he was loaned to Premier League rivals Aston Villa in the 2020-2022 Premier League season. He returned to Stamford Bridge in the 2021-2022 Premier League campaign but faced stiff competition for a place in the starting line-up with the likes of Hakim Ziyech. After new arrivals into the Chelsea squad under Thomas Tuchel, it was evident that the England star would face stiffer competition for a place in the Chelsea squad and may subsequently be left out of the team.

The Blues have confirmed squad numbers for their players for the 2022-2023 Premier League season, and Ross Barkley was not mentioned. He has made 100 appearances for the Blues

Ross Barkley: Prospects And Football Style

Barkley has been on the lips of top managers such as Xavi Hernandez, Roberto Martinez, Roy Hodgson, and Frank Lampard. They have praised the 29-year-old for his energy and pace with the ball. Barkley combines incredible speed and agility with the ball. He can still weather his poor stint with the Blues and aim for another chance, not necessarily at a top club, but where he will have regular game time.
