Ronaldo sustains ankle injury against Lazio, becomes a doubt for Portugal

Juventus star, Cristiano Ronaldo was forced off on Sunday during the Serie A clash with Lazio on Sunday after sustaining an ankle injury.

The extent of the injury is not known yet. The Portugal captain limped off the pitch in the second half and reportedly told the coach, Andrea Pirlo he twisted his ankle.

The Portuguese star opened the scoring for the Old lady in the first half before Felipe Caicedo’s equalizer shared the points for both teams.

Paulo Dybala, who has not been getting a lot of game time came into his place in the 73rd minute.

It was gathered that Ronaldo seemed surprised by Pirlo’s decision to take him off. No manager will want to take a further risk with his best player, having been told what happened.

Ronaldo twisted his ankle after landing badly on his ankle a few seconds earlier. This forced him to leave the pitch in pain and limping.

Juventus’ medical staff immediately attended to him by putting ice on his right ankle.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has been called up by the Portuguese national team for the upcoming international break.

The invite is coming a few days after the Portuguese recovered from COVID-19. Ronaldo was tested positive whilst with the national team, causing him to miss three Juventus game – one against Barcelona that would have offered him the opportunity to face Lionel Messi again.

With the latest injury scare, it remains unknown if Ronaldo will be declared fit to join Portugal as Juve would want to know if there is any damage to the ankle, to avoid a long term layoff.
