Ronaldo rescues point for Juventus against Atalanta

Cristiano Ronaldo rose to the occasion for Juventus to secure a 2-2 draw for the Binaconerri against Atalanta in the Serie A clash played on Saturday.

The five-time world footballer of the year through his brace ensured that the Turin giant shared the points with the visitors.

Atalanta has been on a great run of nine straight wins to the game which took them to third on the log at a point and two points behind Lazio.

With Lazio losing to Sassuolo 2-1 at the Olympic Stadium, Le Dea has now closed the gap to one point difference as well.

With the brace that came from the penalty spot,  Ronaldo has now scored 32 goals for Juventus in all competitions this season. Juve has now moved eight points clear
of Lazio.

Atalanta on the back of nine straight wins and 19 goals better than any other side in Italy’s top flight this season, would have dislodged Lazio on the second spot should they have run away with the maximum points in Turin.

Inter will be level on point with the Rome based club if they defeat Torino at home on Monday.

The visitors gave the Bianconerri a run for their money by controlling the long periods of the game, and they deservedly went ahead twice with goals coming from Duvan Zapata and Ruslan Malinovskiy.

But they were unable to leave Turin with the maximum points with Ronaldo bagging his 28th goal in 28 league games in the 90th minute.

Zapata opened the goals account after he was released on goal via Alejandro Gomez’s clever turn and pass. The big Colombian forward fend off Matthijs de Ligt before sliding his shot past Juve goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny for the opening goal.

Atalanta jubilates a goal against Juventus

Juventus were awarded a penalty after Marten de Roon handed the ball in the box. Ronaldo cooly converted the spot-kick to restore parity.

The visitors later went ahead again through Malinovskiy’s low drive to set them on the part of victory against the Serie A champions.

Although he was kept quiet throughout the encounter, Ronaldo stopped Gian Piero Gasperini’s side from winning the clash in the 90th minutes from another penalty kick.

This time around, the handball was conceded by Luis Muriel. The Portugues made no mistake by rescuing a point for Maurizio Sarri’s side.
