FC Barcelona fans were not happy with the club’s coach Ronald Koeman after Real Madrid visited Nou Camp to defeat their club 1-2 in the first El Clasico of the season.

To show how unhappy they were with the coach, some fans of the club attacked the coach when he was trying to drive himself out of the premises of the stadium.

A video that surfaced on the internet on Sunday evening, October 24, 2021, showed the fans hitting Ronald Koeman’s car profusely but the Dutch tactician was able to find his way out of the scene before the fans could cause more damage.

After the incident, FC Barcelona issued an official statement to condemn the attack on Ronald Koeman. The club described the attack on the coach as a disdainful act.

“Barcelona publicly condemn the violent and disdainful acts that our manager experienced when leaving the Nou Camp”, the club’s statement read.

“The club will take security and disciplinary measures so that such unfortunate events do not happen again.”

Recall that Real Madrid visited Nou Camp to take on FC Barcelona after
Ronald Koeman and his boys had recorded 4 wins, 3 draws, and a defeat in La Liga this season.

Hence, Barca fans expected their players to use the El Clasico to pick up themselves and return to winning ways. But that was not to be.

Despite enjoying the ball possession, Barcelona failed to take their chances. Real Madrid stole the show in the 32nd minute, thanks to David Alaba’s first El Clasico goal.

In the additional minutes of the game, Lucas Vazquez doubled Real Madrid’s lead. When Madrid’s supporters thought their team would leave Nou Camp with a clean sheet, Sergio Aguero came from the bench to score Barcelona’s consolation goal.

The 2-1 home defeat has pushed Real Madrid down to the 9th spot with 15 points in 9 games. While the win has taken Real Madrid to the second spot with 20 points in 9 games, a point below first placed Real Sociedad.

Before Ronald Koeman was attacked outside Nou Camp, the Norwegian tactician stressed that his team played well against Real Madrid.

The coach also stressed that his team performance on Sunday proved that the team was improving and the club was close to winning a big game.

Koeman: “I think the team did all they could to level up the match but we didn’t have much time after going 2-1 down. We’re disappointed with the result but not for what we did as a team.

“In today’s match, we showed that we are not inferior to Madrid, but instead of being 1-0 up, we went 1-0 down and this had a huge impact on the match.

“But I think we showed that little by little we are improving and that we are closer to winning a big match and that’s how it is.

“Normally in a Clasico, it means something more [than just losing three points] if you are Barcelona. I get this perfectly. But there’s no time to cry about it because on Wednesday we have another match.”

As for Real Madrid coach, Carlo Ancelotti who recorded his first win at Nou Camp on Sunday noted that his team was good defensively against Barcelona.

He acknowledged that the performance of FC Barcelona made the game more difficult for him and his team.

“I think it was a practical and clever display”, Ancelotti said. “We were good defensively, with the ball in the first half, we could have done better with the build-up from behind, we got some passes wrong, but very effective with our counter-attacks.

“Clearly this team has this quality and we have to take advantage of it. Nothing more. I am happy, we gained three points. It’s been a difficult game. Barcelona’s performance has made the match tough for us. It hasn’t been an easy game and the fact that we won, makes us happy.

“I think we are competitive. The team is very solid and our goal is to still be solid a bit farther down the road. This is what we plan to do, but we must consider that we played against a great team, which played a very good game and made our life difficult.

“But the fact that we were able to suffer all together, without losing control even when we didn’t have the ball is a virtue of ours.”
