Romelu Lukaku has declared himself the “real god” and king of Milan after he helped Inter Milan to win the 2020-2021 Scudetto for the first time in 11 years.

The 27-year-old Belgium international took to both Instagram and Twitter to celebrate the triumph by posting a picture in which his teammates gathered around him to celebrate a goal.

In the caption, the former Manchester United striker who scored 21 league goals this season before Inter Milan were confirmed champions of the Serie A, ordered his competitors to bow to the newly crowned king.

He wrote: “The real god has crowned the king! Now bow down. King of Milano!”

Romelu Lukaku’s social media post is seen as a direct jab at his Milan rival Zlatan Ibrahimovic of AC Milan who has always claimed to be the god of Milan.

Also, in the last Milan derby, Lukaku and Ibrahimovic who were teammates at Manchester United could not control their tempers as they engaged in a shouting match that almost went physical before other players and the center-referee intervened.

Earlier in the season, the 39-year-old Swedish striker said in an interview that: “Milan never had a king, they have a god”. Ibrahimovic’s comment came days after Romelu Lukaku claimed in a social media post that he was the new king of Milan.

Ever since then, the two have continued to use every opportunity to throw jabs at each other via social media and in interviews.

Recall that Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been the talisman of AC Milan in most parts of the season but his effort only helped AC Milan to stay on the fourth spot on the league table with 69 points in 34 games, 13 points away from Romelu Lukaku’s Inter Milan that won the league title with four games to go.

Lukaku’s claim that he was crowned king after winning the Scudetto could also be a jab at Cristiano Ronaldo who plays for Juventus in the league.

Even though Ronaldo is currently the highest goalscorer of the league, Juventus are struggling to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League. They are currently on the third spot on the league table with 69 points in 34 games.

In an interview after Inter Milan were confirmed champions of the Serie A, Romelu Lukaku described the 2020-2021 season as the best season in his career.

“Last year was good too, but this was the best of my career”, he told Sky Italia.

“It’s wonderful and I hope to continue like this. I want to thank everyone, I am truly so happy.

“I am so happy for all the Inter fans in the world, for the team, the staff, the President, and everyone.

“It was a wonderful year for us, I am truly proud to play for Inter. I wanted to come out here and celebrate along with the people. I told my friend this was the best way to experience it, to be there with the fans.

“For me and many of my teammates, this is our first league title, so it’s a moment we wanted to share with them.”
