Roman Abramovich, the owner of Chelsea football club, is reportedly trying to sell his properties in the United Kingdom according to a member of parliament, Chris Bryant.
Chris Bryant who is a Labour MP used Parliamentary Privilege to tell the House of Commons that Roman Abramovich is trying to sell his home in London and another apartment.
According to the MP, the 55-year-old Russian billionaire is trying to sell his properties because he is terrified of being sanctioned.
Recall that since Russia started the invasion of Ukraine on February 24, most parts of the world have been slamming different sanctions on Russia and its wealthy citizens who have businesses outside Russia to force the country to withdraw from Ukraine.
Unfortunately, Roman Abramovich who has been the owner of Chelsea since 2003, has been in the center of the whole storm because of his alleged affiliation with Russia’s President Putin.
Even his Premier League club has been under fire over the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Hence, Abramovich had to transfer the control of the club to the club’s charity foundation board.
Despite that, Chelsea have remained under fire from different quarters. It got so intense that the coach of the club, Thomas Tuchel had to urge reporters to stop asking him about the ongoing war in Ukraine and Abramovich.
If MP Chris Bryant’s claim is anything to go by, then Russia’s invasion of Ukraine could force him to sell his £125million mansion near Kensington Palace, London.
Amid claims that Abramovich is in a panic mode, the same Russian billionaire is reportedly pushing for peace between his country and Ukraine.
The 55-year-old Russian businessman and politician who is also an Israeli citizen was reportedly approached by Ukraine to broker peace between the two eastern European countries.
Will Roman Abramovich sell Chelsea?
Roman Abramovich has been the owner of Chelsea football club since 2003. He has invested heavily in the club in his 20 years reign. Reports claimed that the Russian billionaire has spent over one billion pounds on the club so far.
Unfortunately for him, he is under intense pressure to hands off all he owns in the United Kingdom including the Premier League club.
Hence, the question on the lips of most Chelsea fans is, would he sell the Premier League side? Recent reports claimed that bidders across the world are already lining up to buy the club from him.
However, Abramovich who has handed over the control of the club to Chelsea’s charity foundation board is not likely to sell the club unless the UK Parliament continues to push for it.
Sofia Abramovich is against Putin
Meanwhile, Sofia Abramovich, the daughter of Roman Abramovich took to her Instagram story recently to declare that the war between Russia and Ukraine was not a war by all Russians but a war of the country’s president, Vladimir Putin.
Sofia who is the daughter of Abramovich’s former wife Irina Malandina (married in 1991, divorced in 2007), stressed that most Russians are not with the country’s president.
The 27-year-old Abramovich’s daughter wrote: ‘The biggest and most successful lie of the Kremlin’s propaganda is that most Russians stand with Putin’
