Rodrygo, Real Madrid’s goal hero celebrated like Cristiano Ronaldo after he scored twice in the UEFA Champions League against Chelsea, and later revealed why he hit the ‘SIUUU’ celebration.

A brace from the Brazilian winger Rodrygo gave Real Madrid a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night to carry Carlo Ancelotti’s men through to the semi-final.

Despite Real Madrid’s two-goal lead from the first leg, the Blues put them under intense pressure at Stamford Bridge.

But Rodrygo broke through at the end, racing past Trevoh Chalobah on the counter, trading crosses with Vinicius Junior, and finishing off with a fine goal.

Before Rodrygo led a brilliant counterattack in the 58th minute and punished Chelsea for their wastefulness, the Blues had taken 10 shots.

Chelsea dominated the match and had great scoring opportunities in the first half through Marc Cucurella and N’Golo Kante, but Madrid scored to go up 3-0 on aggregate.

The Blues, however, were unable to capitalize on their opportunities, leaving Madrid needing only a single goal to win the game.

The Champions League was their last opportunity at a trophy this season, but they blew it away.

Only seven Premier League games remain for Chelsea this season, giving them a slim chance to improve on their current 11th-place standing.

The 22-year-old former Santos player, Rodrygo, took his tally to 15 goals in 37 appearances in the competition, of which just 19 have been as a starter.

It was after his first goal that Rodrygo hit the signature Cristiano Ronaldo ‘SIU’ celebration, the jump and twist followed by a pose reminiscent of Madrid’s all-time leading record goal scorer.

He did it to spare a problematic knee and as a tribute to the Champions League 140 goal-leading marksman.

After the match, Rodrygo told reporters; “First I thought about sliding on my knee, but I have inflammation, and then my idol, Cristiano, came to my mind and I did it”.

“I hope to continue like this, scoring more goals and giving assists and winning the UEFA Champions League more times.”

Madrid will play whoever advances from the match between Manchester City and Bayern Munich. Man City currently holds a 3-0 lead heading into Wednesday’s second leg in Munich.

As a result, we may see a rematch of last year’s semi-final, in which Madrid overcame a 5-3 second-leg deficit at home to triumph in extra time.

In that game, City was left in disarray after a penalty goal by Karim Benzema and a late double by Rodrygo (he scored in the 90th minute and again in stoppage time).

It will be Real Madrid’s 11th appearance in the Champions League semi-finals in the past 13 seasons.
