The reigning champions of La Liga, Barcelona have confirmed that Robert Lewandowski will miss the El Clasico after suffering an injury against Porto in the Champions League.
In a statement released by the club, Barcelona confirmed the extent of his injury, saying, “Tests carried out this morning have revealed that Robert Lewandowski has a left ankle sprain.
“He is out, and his recovery will determine his availability.”
The club failed to reveal his return date. He was initially ruled out of the Granada game on October 8, 2023, when he was diagnosed with swollen shins. However, the problem is bigger than that.
The striker was replaced in the first half by Ferran Torres, who scored the only goal of the match in the Champions League.
Before he was replaced, he received a knock on his ankle, and the referee didn’t call it a foul. The veteran striker was left in pain after the horrible tackle.
Barcelona will face Real Madrid for the first time this season on October 28, 2023, in the biggest match of the season.
Losing Robert Lewandowski to injury is likely to give Xavi Hernandez a headache in El Clasico. The only option to replace the striker is Ferran Torres.
The Spanish striker doesn’t possess the same positioning and scoring abilities as the Polish striker.
