Outgoing FC Bayern Munich star player Robert Lewandowski has finally completed his move to Barcelona and would undergo his medical with the club soon. The Poland international took to his Instagram page earlier today, July 17, 2022, to write a farewell message to Bayern Munich and his teammates at Bayern.

Lewandowski who joined Bayern Munich eight years ago will leave as one of the club’s highest goal scorers.

In his farewell message which he shared via Instagram Lewandowski wrote: “I would like to thank my teammates, staff members, club management, and everyone who has always supported me and made it possible for us to win trophies for @fcbayern.

“I am proud of what we have achieved together. Above all, I would like to thank the fans because it is you who make @fcbayern the special club that it is. I’m privileged to have spent 8 wonderful years with this club and its fans and it will remain in my heart forever.”

Barcelona was not the only team that tried to sign Robert Lewandowski this summer as they had to fight off other big clubs like Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain to land the goal machine.

All things being equal, Lewandowski is expected to start this summer pre-season games with Barça in the coming week.

Lewandowski’s exit would enable Bayern to pay for the signing of Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus, who have set a price of about €80 million (£67.7 million) plus bonuses.

The sporting director of Bayern, Hasan Salihamidzic, was in Turin on Monday to begin talks with Juventus over De Ligt. The Dutchman, who still has two years left on his contract with Juventus has informed the Italian team of his desire to switch to Munich.

It is no longer news that Barcelona and Bayern Munich have reached an agreement for Robert Lewandowski to join the Spanish La Liga giants for £42.5 million (€50 million).

Lewandowski is still in Munich and will go to Miami on Sunday, where Barcelona’s pre-season tour will get underway, for a medical exam before signing a three-year contract with an option for a one-year extension. With only one year left on his Bayern contract, the Poland international told Bayern Munich that he would not be renewing.

The German champions had previously maintained that Robert Lewandowski wasn’t for sale and rejected a €40 million (£33.8 million) bid from Barcelona last month.

Based on the agreement Barcelona and Bayern Munich reached on Saturday, July 16, 2022, Barcelona will be required to pay an upfront sum of about €45 million plus an additional €5 million.

Lewandowski will then sign a four-year deal that will last until 2026. His annual salary will be close to €9 million, which is seen as a maximum for Barcelona’s new pay scale under Joan Laporta.

Lewandowski may earn the most money under Barcelona’s new pay scale, excluding players with contracts from the old administration like Frenkie de Jong and Gerard Pique.

The former Borussia Dortmund player has also agreed to accept a reduced wage for the final two years of his contract. This should be effective starting with the 2024–25 season. However, Lewandowski may request new terms if he maintains his form in La Liga.

Barça also has an option to end his contract in the final two years but will pay a compensation fee.
