Robert Lewandowski: Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the former Bayern Munich manager, has questioned why the Polish striker would desire to move to Barcelona.
After admitting he would not be renewing his contract at Allianz Arena, the Polish striker has been heavily linked with a move to Camp Nou.
Lewandowski has announced that his current deal at Allianz Arena will not be extended beyond 2023, fueling speculation that he will depart Bayern in the summer transfer window.
The destination of the 33-year-old Polish striker has been speculated to be Camp Nou, but Rummenigge believes that Barca is not a more appealing club than the German champions at the moment.
What was Rummenigge’s take on Lewandowski’s decision to leave Bayern Munich?
In the 2021-22 season, Bayern won their eleventh Bundesliga title and advanced to the Champions League quarterfinals, while Barcelona was eliminated from Europe’s top competition in the group stage and finished second to Real Madrid in La Liga.
If Robert Lewandowski is motivated by a desire to win titles, Rummenigge believes he should stay put at Bayern.
“I can’t imagine that you can currently win more with FC Barcelona than with Bayern Munich,” the former Bayern CEO told BILD.
“What more can Barcelona offer at the moment? I can’t think of anything, if I’m honest.”
Lewandowski is regarded as “irreplaceable”
Despite the fact that Xavi revealed initial transfer conversations with Lewandowski, Bayern officials have claimed that he will finish his contract.
Rummenigge has emphasized the importance of retaining the services of a coveted asset, recommending his former club to wrap an arm around his agent and give him executive responsibilities behind the scenes.
“Robert is irreplaceable for FC Bayern. You need a player like that, even if he’s about to turn 34. That’s a goal guarantee that doesn’t exist anywhere in Europe. Robert is top class!” he said.
“You have to pray that Robert stays, he is the absolute attraction of the league.
“You have to fight for it, talk to him and cuddle with the advisor. You have to include him in the inner workings of the club.”
